# Activate Blockify and the app embed

## Overview

Blockify protects your store only when two switches are on: the **Blockify app status** switch inside the app and the Blockify **app embed** in your Shopify theme. Both are managed from the **Home** page of Blockify.

## How to activate Blockify?

Step 1: Open Blockify from your Shopify admin and stay on **Home**.

Step 2: In the **Blockify app status** row, click **Activate Blockify**. The badge changes from **Off** to **On** and every rule and protection you configured starts running.

## How to enable the app embed?

The app embed is the part of Blockify that is added to your store's theme so it can check every visitor. You turn it on once per theme, either from Blockify or from the Shopify theme editor.

### Option 1: From Blockify

Step 1: On **Home**, find the **Enable app embed on theme** row and click **Activate app embed**. The Shopify theme editor opens in a new tab with Blockify already switched on in the **App embeds** panel.

Step 2: Click **Save** in the theme editor.

Step 3: Back in Blockify, the **Enable app embed on theme** row shows **On**; refresh the page if it still shows **Off**.

### Option 2: From the Shopify theme editor

Step 1: In your Shopify admin, go to **Online Store > Themes** and click **Customize** on the theme you want to protect.

Step 2: In the left sidebar, open the **App embeds** panel.

Step 3: Turn on **Blockify** and click **Save**.

| Important: The app embed is saved per theme. When you publish a new theme, turn Blockify on in that theme too.

## How to check that Blockify is running?

* On **Home**, both the **Enable app embed on theme** row and the **Blockify app status** row show a green **On** badge.
* Open **Analytics**: visits to your storefront appear in the visitor log. If your own visit never shows up, the app embed is not on in the published theme.
* To test a rule without locking yourself out, open your store through the **Admin's access URL** in **Settings > General settings**; visits through that link are never blocked.

To pause Blockify, click **Deactivate Blockify** on the same row: every rule and protection stops but stays saved. **Deactivate app embed** opens the theme editor so you can turn the embed off there.

## FAQs

1. **I saved the app embed, but Home still shows Off. Why?**

You probably saved it in a theme that is not published. Customise the theme marked **Current theme** in **Online Store > Themes**, save again, then refresh the Blockify Home page.

1. **Does deactivating Blockify delete my rules?**

No. Your rules and settings stay saved; none of them run until you click **Activate Blockify** again.

1. **Do I need to enable the app embed again after changing my theme?**

Yes. The app embed belongs to each theme, so turn it on in every theme you publish.

1. **Which switch should I use to pause Blockify for troubleshooting?**

**Deactivate Blockify** on **Home**. It pauses everything in one click and keeps the app embed in place, so turning Blockify back on is one click too.
