# Add an exception date

# Add an exception date

Open a special operating day that isn't part of your regular working days — for peak seasons when you want to take extra orders.

|| Available on all plans. Applies to shipping, pickup, and delivery.

## Overview

An exception date makes a normally-closed day available for fulfillment. Example: you normally operate Monday–Friday, but during BFCM/Christmas/New Year you add Sunday so you can handle more orders.

|| Adding an exception date only opens that day for new orders — it doesn't change anything else.

## Before you start

* The method (Shipping, Pickup, or Delivery) is enabled with a scheduling rule.

## How to add an exception date

Here's how, step by step:

### Step 1: Open the method rule

Go to the method you want to add a special working day for.

### Step 2: Add the exception date

Add the date(s) that fall outside your regular working days but should be available.

## How it looks on the storefront

The added date becomes selectable in the calendar even though it's outside your normal working days.

## Common scenarios

### Peak-season Sunday

Open Sundays during the holidays to capture extra demand.

### One-off event day

Add a single special day (e.g., a market or pop-up) to your calendar.

### Catch-up day

Open an extra day after a closure to clear backlog.

## Configuration options

| Option | Description | Notes |
| ---- |
| Exception date | Opens a non-working day for fulfillment | Per method rule |

## Tips & Best practices

|| Exception date is the opposite of a blackout — use it to *open* days, and [blackout dates](https://help.omegatheme.com/en/article/how-to-block-dates-from-calendar-jh27z7/) to *close* them.

| Pair an exception date with [order limits](https://help.omegatheme.com/en/article/how-to-limit-orders-xiw9n0/) so the extra day doesn't overload your team.

## Troubleshooting

### The exception day isn't selectable?

Confirm it's added to the correct method's rule, isn't also in blackout dates, and falls within the future-order window.

### It opened for the wrong method?

Exception dates are per method — add it to each method you intend.

## FAQ

### Can I open a day for specific products only?

Use an [override](https://help.omegatheme.com/en/article/how-to-override-schedule-for-exception-products-ubnc4f/) with a "specific available date" for those products.

### How do I remove it?

Delete the exception date from the rule and save.
