# Consentik Shopify - Consent Log Retention

**Keep consent logs for longer: free extra months on yearly plans, or up to 3 more years with the retention add-on**
Consent logs are your proof of what each visitor agreed to. When an audit, a data request or a payment dispute asks for that proof, the record you need is often older than a few months.
The Consent Log page lets you view and export consent records for a set number of days back. We call this your **consent log window**. It's made up of up to three parts that add up:
* **Your plan's window**, included with every paid plan.
* **Yearly bonus**: free extra months when your paid plan is billed yearly.
* **Retention add-on**: extra months you add yourself, from 3 months to 3 years, billed with your plan.
For example, Unlimited billed yearly with a 1-year add-on gives you 180 + 360 + 360 = **900 days**.
Consentik counts a month as 30 days, so 3 months = 90 days and 1 year = 360 days.

## At a glance
| Plan | Billed monthly | Billed yearly (with the bonus) |
| ---- | ---- | ---- |
| Free | Not included (available with the retention add-on) | — |
| Plus | 60 days (2 months) | 150 days (5 months) |
| Advanced | 90 days (3 months) | 270 days (9 months) |
| Unlimited | 180 days (6 months) | 540 days (18 months) |

The retention add-on adds up to **1,080 days (3 years)** on top of any of these.
**Where to see your window:** open **Consent Log**. The **Consent log retention** card shows your window in days, for example **150 days**, and the line "View and export the last 150 days of consent logs."

## Get free extra months with yearly billing
When your paid plan is billed yearly, your consent log window grows at no extra cost:
| Plan | Yearly bonus | Window billed yearly |
| ---- | ---- | ---- |
| Plus | +3 months | 150 days |
| Advanced | +6 months | 270 days |
| Unlimited | +12 months | 540 days |
**How to get it**
1. In your Consentik admin, open **Pricing**.
2. Switch the toggle to **Yearly**.
3. Choose your plan and approve the subscription on Shopify's billing screen.
The bonus applies as soon as Shopify approves your yearly subscription, including during a free trial.
On the Pricing page, each paid plan shows how many months of consent logs it includes, with a **+X months if billed yearly** badge. If you're on monthly billing, the Consent Log page also shows a banner, **Get X more months of consent log — free**. Click **View yearly plans** to go straight to yearly pricing.

**When the bonus changes or ends**
* You move to another yearly plan: the bonus changes to the new plan's amount.
* You switch to monthly billing, downgrade to Free or uninstall the app: the bonus ends.
**Already billed yearly before \[launch date]?** The bonus isn't added to subscriptions that were already running. You get it the next time you approve a yearly subscription in Consentik, for example when you change plan or add the retention add-on. Your yearly renewal alone doesn't add it.
## Keep logs up to 3 more years with the retention add-on
The retention add-on extends your window beyond what your plan includes.
* Available on every plan, including Free.
* Add from 3 months to 3 years, in 3-month steps.
* Billed with your plan as one Shopify subscription. Monthly plans pay it monthly, yearly plans pay it yearly.
* It moves with you when you change plans. See **Changing plans** below.
### Pricing
The add-on price is the same on every plan. Each extra 3 months costs 5% less than the previous 3 months, so longer retention is cheaper per month. Paying yearly costs 10 × the monthly price, so you get 2 months free.
| Extra retention | Billed monthly | Billed yearly |
| ---- | ---- | ---- |
| +3 months | $3.99/month | $39.90/year |
| +6 months | $7.78/month | $77.80/year |
| +9 months | $11.38/month | $113.80/year |
| +1 year | $14.80/month | $148.00/year |
| +2 years | $26.86/month | $268.60/year |
| +3 years | $36.68/month | $366.80/year |
Promotion codes apply to the plan price only, not to the add-on. If you change the add-on mid-cycle, Shopify prorates the difference on your next bill.
### How to add or change the add-on
1. In your Consentik admin, open **Consent Log**.
2. On the **Consent log retention** card, click **Extend**. If you already have an add-on, click **Manage**.
3. Drag the slider to choose how much to add. The window shows your **Current window**, the **Total window you can view and export** after the change, and the **Add-on price** for your billing cycle.
4. Click **Confirm**, then approve the updated subscription on Shopify's billing screen.

Back in the app, the card shows your new window. With an add-on, the badge turns green and shows "Includes +N add-on days". That's your confirmation.
Your plan, your settings and other add-ons such as the checkout extension stay as they are. If you're still in your free trial, the remaining trial days carry over.
### On the Free plan
You can buy the add-on without upgrading:
* It unlocks the Consent Log table and export for 30 days plus the months you add.
* It's billed monthly, with no free trial.
* Scheduled export and consent statistics stay on paid plans.
To remove it, open **Manage**, drag the slider to **None** and click **Confirm**. Billing stops straight away and the Consent Log table locks again.
## Your window grows from the day you extend
Extending your window doesn't bring back logs that were already deleted. Right away you see whatever is still stored, usually up to:
* **Free:** 30 days
* **Plus and Advanced:** 90 days
* **Unlimited:** 180 days
From then on your history builds up day by day until it fills your full window.
**Example:** you're on Plus (60 days) and add +3 months. Your new window is 150 days. You can see 90 days back straight away, and all 150 days after about 2 months.
## Before you shorten your window
Your window gets shorter when you:
* lower or remove the add-on,
* switch from yearly to monthly billing,
* move to a plan with a shorter window,
* downgrade to Free,
* uninstall the app.
⚠️ **Important:** consent logs older than your new window are **permanently deleted the next day** and can't be recovered. Export them first from the Consent Log page if you might need them.
Consentik shows how many days you'll lose before you confirm any of these changes in the app. Uninstalling happens in Shopify, so there's no warning. Export before you uninstall.
## Changing plans
**Changing to another paid plan.** Your add-on moves with you and its price is added to the new subscription. The Pricing page shows the plan price only, and Shopify's billing screen shows the total. Your yearly bonus follows the new plan if you're billed yearly, and ends if you're billed monthly.
**Switching between monthly and yearly.** Your add-on moves with you and is billed on the new cycle. Moving to yearly adds the bonus. Moving to monthly removes it.
**Downgrading to Free with an add-on.** The confirmation asks what to do with your add-on:
* **Switch to Free and remove the add-on**: the add-on is no longer billed.
* **Switch to Free and keep the add-on**: you approve a new subscription for the add-on only, billed monthly. Your window becomes 30 days plus your add-on.
Each option shows your resulting window and how many days you'd lose.

**Uninstalling the app.** The add-on and the yearly bonus end. If you reinstall later, you start again with your plan's standard window.
**Payment issues.** If Shopify pauses your subscription because a payment failed, your add-on stays active until the subscription is actually cancelled.
## Frequently asked questions
**I bought the add-on but I still can't see logs from months ago.** That's expected. Extending your window doesn't bring back logs that were already deleted. Your history fills in day by day. See **Your window grows from the day you extend** above.

**Why is my Shopify bill higher than the price on the Pricing page?** Your subscription includes the retention add-on. The Pricing page shows the plan price only, and Shopify bills plan + add-on together.

**Do I need to approve a new charge every time I change the add-on?** Yes. The add-on is part of your Shopify subscription, so each change is approved on Shopify's billing screen. The only exception is removing the add-on on the Free plan, which takes effect straight away.

**Can I use a discount code on the add-on?** No. Promotion codes apply to the plan price only.

**I'm billed yearly but I don't see the yearly bonus.** If your yearly subscription started before \[launch date], the bonus is added the next time you approve a yearly subscription in Consentik. Your renewal alone doesn't add it.

**Does the add-on change how long logs are kept, or only how far back I can see?** Both. Consentik keeps your logs for at least as long as you can view them.

**Does this extend the Statistics page?** On plans that include [Consent Response Statistics](https://help.omegatheme.com/en/article/consent-response-statistics-page-4yv6ce/), the date range follows your consent log window, up to 180 days.

**Does this change scheduled export?** No. [Scheduled export](https://help.omegatheme.com/en/article/consentik-scheduled-consent-logs-export-2tgril/) still emails you last month's records on the 1st of every month.

**How long should I keep consent logs?** It depends on the laws that apply to your business, so check with your legal advisor. Regulators generally expect you to be able to show valid consent for as long as you rely on it.

**Before you keep logs longer** Consent logs include visitor data such as IP addresses. If you extend your window, make sure your privacy policy reflects how long you keep this data.
