# How to setup GA4

# GA4 in Omega Google Ads
Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is Google's event-based analytics for websites and apps. Omega Google Ads integrates GA4 to help you:
* Track customer behavior from landing page to purchase.
* Report revenue and the effectiveness of your Google Ads campaigns accurately.
* Use both **client-side** (browser) and **server-side** (server) tracking for more complete data.
In Omega Google Ads, GA4 is configured inside **Market & Events**. Each Shopify market can have its own GA4 property, and the **Global** configuration acts as the fallback for any market you have not configured separately.

# Where GA4 is set up
GA4 is set per market on the **Add market** or **Edit market** page, under **Tracking IDs**. You do not set GA4 from a separate menu.
* To configure GA4 for the whole store, edit the **Global** row.
* To give one market its own GA4 property, add or edit that market.

# Set up GA4 for a market
1. Go to **Market & Events**.

2. Open a market: click **+ Add market**, or the **edit icon** on an existing row (including **Global**).

3. Under **Tracking IDs**, turn on the **Google Analytics 4 (GA4)** toggle.
4. Choose your **GA4 account**.
5. Set the **Measurement ID** using one of two options:
    * **Auto create:** Omega Google Ads creates a new GA4 property for you. Use this if you do not have one yet, or want a clean property for this market. (Requires **Editor** permission or higher on the Google account.)
    * **Select existing: L**ink a GA4 property you already have, then pick its Measurement ID (format `G-XXXXXXXXXX`).
6. Not sure where to find it? Use the **How to find my GA4 ID?** link on the page.
7. Click **Save**.

### Editing GA4 for Global
Global is the default configuration. Click the **edit icon** on the **Global** row, update the **GA4** property under Tracking IDs, and click **Save**. Because Global is the fallback for every market without its own configuration, changing the Global GA4 property updates GA4 for all of those markets at once.

# Server-side tracking
Server-side tracking sends GA4 data directly from Trakpilot's servers instead of relying only on the customer's browser.
**Benefits**
* Bypasses ad blockers.
* More accurate data, unaffected by restricted third-party cookies.
* Better customer data privacy and security.

| 👉 How to turn it on
In the GA4 section of Add/Edit market, tick Activate server-side tracking for GA4. With Auto create (Editor permission), Trakpilot retrieves the required credentials for you.

# Status and permissions
* **On:** GA4 is active and tracking data for that market.
* **Off:** GA4 is disabled; no data is sent.
If you see a **"Missing Permissions"** notice, your Google account does not have enough access (such as Editor) to make automatic changes. Click **Reconnect Account** and make sure all requested permissions are checked, or ask your GA4 administrator to grant Editor access.

**Quick troubleshooting**
* **Account not found:** make sure you are logged into the Google account that manages this store.
* **Data saving error:** check that the Measurement ID is in the correct format.

# Verify GA4 is working
After setup, confirm data is flowing. The fastest check is GA4 **Reports → Real-time**: open your storefront, browse a few pages, and watch Active Users and events appear. To confirm server-side events, open **DebugView**, trigger an action, and check the event's `event_source` parameter (`trakpilot_server` for server-side, `trakpilot_client` for client-side).

| 💡 Tip: Combining Auto create with server-side tracking on gives you the most accurate data for your campaigns.

# Frequently asked questions
1. **Where do I set up GA4?** → Inside **Market & Events**, on the Add/Edit market page under Tracking IDs. Edit **Global** for a store-wide GA4 property, or a specific market to give it its own.
2. **Do I need an existing GA4 property?** → No. Choose **Auto create** and Trakpilot makes a new property for you (with Editor permission). Choose **Select existing** to link one you already have.
3. **Can two markets share the same GA4 property?** → For clean, separated data we recommend a dedicated GA4 property per market. Sharing one property mixes market data back together.
4. **Why is GA4 off for my market?** → Either the GA4 toggle is off in that market's Tracking IDs, or the market has no GA4 set and is falling back to Global.
