Cross-domain consent sharing

Cross-domain Consent Sharing

Overview

Cross-domain Consent Sharing allows merchants who operate multiple stores or markets across different domains to share a single user’s consent across those domains, as long as the user is on the same browser.

With this feature, once a user provides consent on one domain, they will not be asked to provide consent again when navigating to other connected domains. This ensures a seamless user experience while maintaining compliance with privacy regulations such as GDPR and CCPA.

Availability

  • This feature is available only on the Unlimited pricing plan.

Use Case

This feature is designed for merchants who:

  • Own multiple stores with different domains.
  • Operate multiple markets, where each market uses a separate domain.
  • Want to provide a consistent and frictionless consent experience across all their domains.

Setup Requirements

Before enabling Cross-domain Consent Sharing, merchants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Install the Consentik app on all stores/domains that need to share user consent.
  2. Each store must have its own active Consentik installation.

Configuration Steps

To configure Cross-domain Consent Sharing:

  1. Go to App Admin.
  2. Navigate to Integration.
  3. Locate the section Cross-domain Consent Sharing.

  1. Add the domains you want to share consent with.
    • Do not include the current store’s domain.
    • Only add external domains that belong to your other stores or markets.
  1. Save the configuration.

The setup must be completed on each store where consent sharing is required.

How It Works

  • When a user visits any domain in the configured domain list and accepts consent, Consentik stores the consent information in the browser.
  • If the same user later visits another configured domain using the same browser, Consentik automatically applies the previously given consent.
  • The user will not be prompted to consent again, as long as the consent is still valid.

Important Notes

  • Consent sharing works only within the same browser.
  • If the user switches browsers or clears browser data, consent will need to be collected again.
  • All domains involved must have Consentik correctly installed and configured.

Benefits

  • Improved user experience with fewer consent prompts.
  • Consistent consent management across multiple domains.
  • Reduced friction for users navigating between markets or stores.
  • Fully compliant consent handling under supported privacy regulations.
