How to check the tracking event results

After setting up tracking events, it's important to verify whether they are working correctly. Testing helps ensure that events are triggered properly and sent to the correct tracking destinations.

In this guide, we will walk through two common methods to check your tracking results:

  • Real-time Dashboard – Test server-side events
  • Google Tag Assistant – Test client-side events

1. Check Events with the Real-time Dashboard (Server-side)

The Real-time Dashboard allows you to monitor events that are sent through server-side tracking.

When to use this method

Use the Real-time Dashboard to confirm whether events are successfully received and processed through server-side tracking.

How to check

  1. Make sure you have added and connected at least one tracking destination in TagFly, and selected the events you want to track.
  2. Open your TagFly dashboard.
  3. Navigate to the Real-time Dashboard.
  4. Open your store in another browser tab.
  5. Perform actions on your store to trigger events, such as:
    • Viewing a product
    • Adding a product to cart
    • Starting checkout
    • Completing a purchase
  1. Return to the Real-time Dashboard and check the event activity.

You should see the server-side events that were selected when connecting the destination appearing in real time on the dashboard (as shown in the screen below):

If those events appear, it means your server-side tracking for the connected destination is working correctly.

Event statuses may show Pending for a few seconds while being processed and sent to the selected destinations. The status will update to Sent once the event is successfully delivered.

2. Check Events with Google Tag Assistant (Client-side)

  1. Go to https://tagassistant.google.com/.
  2. Enter your store domain and click Connect.
  3. Wait for Tag Assistant to establish a connection with your site.
  4. Perform some test actions on your store that trigger the events you selected for client-side tracking (for example: viewing a product, adding a product to cart, or starting checkout).
  5. Return to Tag Assistant and check the events.

The actions you performed will appear as event/tag names corresponding to the client-side events you selected to track:

If the events appear in Tag Assistant, it means your client-side tracking is working correctly.

Conclusion

Verifying your tracking setup is an important step to ensure events are triggered and delivered correctly.

You can use the following methods to test your tracking:

  • Real-time Dashboard to verify server-side events sent from your store to connected destinations.
  • Google Tag Assistant to verify client-side events triggered directly in the browser.

By testing both server-side and client-side events, you can confirm that your tracking configuration is working as expected. If an event does not appear, review your event selection and tracking setup to ensure everything is configured correctly.
