TagFly: Charge Policy

What you will learn

In this article, you will learn:

How billing works

  • Charged through your Shopify invoice. Every TagFly charge — subscription and overage — is added to your Shopify invoice. TagFly never charges your card directly.
  • Overage (Grow monthly only) is billed on a 30-day cycle. On Grow's monthly billing, the $0.04 per-order overage is calculated and billed every 30 days, in line with your monthly billing cycle. Grow's yearly billing has no usage-based component — purchase events are unlimited, so no overage is ever calculated or billed.
  • You approve every change. Any new subscription or plan change generates a Shopify approval screen. TagFly can never change your price without your explicit approval.
  • Shopify collects and handles disputes. Shopify collects payment on TagFly's behalf, manages revenue share, and handles chargebacks.

Purchase Events & overage policy

A Purchase Event (PE) is approximately one order forwarded to your tracking destinations in a given month. Your PE count resets every 30 days.

Plan

Purchase event cap

What happens when you exceed it

Free

10 PE

Warnings at 80% and 100% usage. Past 100%, new events stop being forwarded until your next 30-day cycle or until you upgrade. Your dashboard data remains viewable throughout.

Basic

500 PE

Same behavior as Free.

Grow — monthly billing

2,500 PE

Tracking is never blocked. Each event beyond 2,500 generates a $0.04 usage charge, up to your approved App Spending Limit.

Grow — yearly billing

Unlimited

No cap and no overage charges

If you're on Free or Basic and regularly approaching your PE limit, upgrading avoids interrupted tracking rather than waiting to hit the cap.

App Spending Limit (Grow, monthly billing)

Because Grow's monthly billing includes usage-based overage ($0.04 per order beyond 2,500/month), Shopify requires you to approve an App Spending Limit — a cap on how much TagFly can charge you in usage fees per 30-day cycle.

  • TagFly sets this to $1,000/month by default
  • You are never charged more than your spending limit
  • If your overage charges approach the limit, you'll be notified so you can approve a higher limit before charges are paused
  • This limit doesn't apply to Grow's yearly billing, since yearly purchase events are unlimited and don't generate overage charges

Free trial policy

  • Basic and Grow include a 7-day free trial, which delays your first charge by 7 days
  • Trial length cannot be changed once you've approved a plan
  • Trials apply only to new subscriptions — switching plans on an active subscription does not start a new trial
  • Reinstall rule: if you cancel or uninstall TagFly partway through a trial, and later reinstall and subscribe to the same plan within 180 days, you only receive the trial days you had remaining — not a full new trial. For example, if you used 12 of a 15-day trial before uninstalling, reinstalling within 180 days gives you the remaining 3 days
  • After 180 days, the trial counter for that plan resets, and you're eligible for the full trial again
Reinstalling and resubscribing soon after canceling a trial will not reset your trial clock. Wait 180 days, or expect to be billed based on your remaining trial days.

Upgrades, downgrades & proration

  • Only one active charge exists per app at a time. Changing plans cancels your current charge and creates a new one, which you must approve again
  • Upgrading: the additional amount charged = (new plan price for the billing period − old plan price for the billing period) ÷ number of days in the period × days remaining in the period
  • Downgrading: the credit issued = (old plan price for the billing period − new plan price for the billing period) ÷ number of days in the period × days remaining in the period

Refund & credit policy

  • Credit is applied against future, unpaid charges. Refund returns money already collected
  • Charges over $1,000 USD are not eligible for refund
  • Invoices older than 12 months are not eligible for refund
  • If you pay via ACH, only invoices less than 90 days old are eligible for refund

Uninstalling, cancellation & frozen stores

  • Uninstalling stops future billing cycles but does not delete or refund charges already generated — Shopify still collects those charges and pays them to TagFly. There is no proration credit for uninstalling mid-cycle
  • Grow (yearly billing): since your annual base fee is charged upfront, uninstalling partway through the year does not automatically refund the unused portion, unless TagFly issues a goodwill refund
  • Frozen stores: if a Shopify invoice goes unpaid for 28 days, your store is frozen and TagFly's charges freeze with it. Paying within 30 days resumes service normally. If the unpaid balance exceeds 60 days, Shopify may terminate the subscription

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Will TagFly ever charge my card directly?

No. All charges — subscription fees and usage overage — go through your Shopify invoice. TagFly never bills you separately.

  1. Can overage charges surprise me on my bill?

No. Overage only applies to Grow's monthly billing, and only up to the App Spending Limit you've approved ($1,000/month by default). You'll be notified before charges approach that limit.

  1. If I uninstall during my trial and reinstall later, do I get a full new trial?

Only if you wait more than 180 days. Reinstalling and resubscribing to the same plan within 180 days gives you only the trial days you had left, not a fresh 7-day trial.

  1. What happens to my Grow Yearly subscription if I uninstall mid-year?

Your annual base fee was charged upfront and is not automatically refunded for the unused portion. You can contact TagFly support to request a goodwill refund, which is evaluated case by case.
