Text Direction (LTR/RTL) for Cookie Banner

What This Feature Does

This feature allows merchants to configure the reading direction of banner text — either Left to Right (LTR) or Right to Left (RTL) — so banners display correctly for all languages, including Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, and Urdu.

Configuring Text Direction

In the app admin, navigate to Settings → Design and find the Text Customization card. There you'll see a "Text direction" dropdown with two options:

  • Left to Right (LTR) — for languages like English or Vietnamese
  • Right to Left (RTL) — for languages like Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, or Urdu

The default value is LTR. After selecting your preferred direction and saving, the change will be reflected on your storefront upon page reload.

A tooltip next to the field provides additional guidance if you're unsure which option to choose.

Smart Recommendations

When you set up a language in Settings → Content → Language Template, the app automatically detects if that language is read right to left. If it is — and your text direction is still set to LTR — an info banner will appear with a reminder and a direct link to the Text Direction setting so you can update it in one click.

This banner only appears when relevant. If your selected language is LTR, you won't see any prompts.

How It Looks on the Storefront

Once configured, the banner container on your storefront will automatically apply the correct reading direction. For RTL, text will align to the right and flow naturally for your audience. For LTR, the default left-aligned layout is used. No additional action is needed on your end after saving the setting.

Default Behavior

If no text direction has been configured yet, the app defaults to LTR to ensure your banner always displays safely. If you're serving an RTL-language audience, the app will remind you via the recommendation banner in the Content settings.
