[Wix Platform] Allowed Bot List
Overview
The Allowed Bot List is a curated list of "good bots" that are identified as trusted and are permitted to access your store. These are automated crawlers from large, legitimate companies that perform useful tasks and do not pose a threat to your store's security.
Examples of these beneficial bots include:
- Googlebot & BingBot: Bots from search engines that index your site for search results
- Facebook External Hit & Pinterest Bot: Bots from social media platforms that generate link previews when your products are shared
- Ahrefs Bot & Semrush Bot: Bots from SEO tools that help analyze and rank your website.
Why is This List Important?
While the Blockify app focuses on stopping malicious traffic, allowing these "good bots" to operate is critical for your store's visibility and growth. It ensures:
- Search Engine Optimization (SEO): Guarantees that search engines like Google and Bing can crawl and rank your products, making them discoverable to new customers.
- Social Media Visibility: Allows your product links to display properly with images and descriptions when shared on platforms like Facebook, Pinterest, and LinkedIn.
- Compatibility with Analytics Tools: Lets legitimate SEO and site analysis tools access your store to provide you with valuable data.
By managing this list, you ensure that your security measures do not accidentally interfere with your marketing efforts.
How to Manage the Bot List
Step 1: Locate the Feature
- From your app's dashboard, navigate to Settings and select the Bot killer tab. At the bottom of the page, where you will find the Allowed bot list section.

- To view the list of bots, click the "Manage" button located in this section.

Step 2: Manage Individual Bots
The list provides the following details for each bot:
- Bot name: The name of the crawler (e.g., Googlebot).
- Resource: A link to the official documentation from the provider, which explains the bot's purpose.
- Action: A toggle switch that sets the bot's status to either allow or block the bot, a trash icon to delete bot from the list.

Add Bot to the List
Step 1: Click the bot search bar to see suggested bots to add to the allowed list.

Step 2: Tick the checkboxes and click button "Close" to add bots to the allowed list.

Note: Each time you add or remove a bot, click the "Close" button to save the updated allowed bots list. Changing a bot’s status does not require clicking "Close" .
Requesting to Add a New Bot
We are constantly updating our list of legitimate bots. However, if you use a service with a helpful bot that isn't on the list and you want to ensure it has access:
Click the "Request to allow a new bot here" link located at the very bottom of the section. This will notify our team to review the bot for potential inclusion in the future.

By managing this list, you maintain full control over which automated systems can interact with your store, perfectly balancing security with online visibility.
