[Wix Platform] Blockify: IP & Country Blocker FAQs

  1. What is Blockify and what does it do?

Blockify is an IP Blocker & Country Redirect application available on Wix. Its primary purpose is to help website owners control who can access their site based on various criteria. Key functions of Blockify include:

  • Blocking access from specific countries or regions.
  • Preventing fraudulent customers and spam bookings.
  • Protecting against crawlers, bots, VPNs, and Tor traffic.
  • Allowing you to restrict content, images, or code from being copied or inspected.

  1. How do I block traffic from specific countries or regions?

You can configure rules to either block specific countries or to allow access only from certain regions.

  • To block a specific country, you should navigate to the "Block & Re-director" tab within the app and select "Block location".
  • You can set rules to block all countries except a chosen one (e.g., Germany, USA).
  • Alternatively, you can whitelist specific countries (e.g., UK, Philippines, Colombia, Israel) while blacklisting all others.
  • The app offers comprehensive blocking options for various countries including Poland, Saudi Arabia, North Korea, Russia, United States, England, Ireland, Pakistan, and Karachi.

  1. What if I accidentally block myself or need to unblock a country?
  • If you or your country have been blocked, you can generally resolve this by turning off the corresponding block rule using the toggle switch.
  • If you are still encountering issues, it might be due to your browser's cache. In such cases, clearing your browser's cache or trying to access your site in an incognito window is recommended. Support agents can also assist with unblocking access.
  • If you're using Safari and are blocked, it might be due to its "Private Relay" feature. Support can enable a specific function to allow Safari users to access the store.
  • You can check your IP with https://whatismyipaddress.com/ to find your IP) and an access link to your store that might be useful in such situations.
  • In cases where a "block all countries" rule was mistakenly prioritized over a whitelist, the agent can reorder the rules to prioritize the whitelist in the priority rule management for correct access

  1. Can Blockify help protect my website from bots, crawlers, and VPNs?

Yes, Blockify is designed to help protect your site from various types of unwanted traffic, including:

  • Bots and crawlers: The app offers functions specifically to block these.
  • VPN and Tor traffic: The app can detect and block users who are faking their IP addresses using VPNs or Tor.
  • High-risk traffic: The "bot killer" feature can be activated. Proxy users can be blocked based on a configurable risk score, starting at 66. If you set the risk score to 0, it will hardly block anything. You can inform real customers using VPNs to turn them off by displaying a banner message, as bots cannot read this text.

For analysis, you can monitor traffic through the "Visitor Analytics" tab within the app to gain insights into the spam.

  1. How can I block specific IP addresses?

You can create block rules based on individual IP addresses.

The "Visitor Analytics" tab in the app allows you to track all IP addresses that have accessed your store and view their risk assessment, enabling you to identify and block specific suspicious IPs, such as those associated with fraudsters. The app can also record blocked IPs in its analytics.

  1. What is the "Visitor Analytics" tab and what information does it provide?

The "Visitor Analytics" tab within the Blockify app provides insights into your website traffic. Here, you can track all IP addresses that have accessed your shop. It also displays the risk assessment of these IP addresses. It's important to note that the free plan limits the visibility of visit records to the first 200; upgrading to a paid plan unlocks access to the full list of your website's accesses.

  1. Can I remove the "Blockify" brandmark from the blocking page?

Yes, the brandmark (or watermark) can be removed from the blocking page that users see when they are denied access. This is a free feature that support agents can assist you with directly.

  1. What are the different plans, and what features do they offer?

Blockify offers different plans:

  • Free Plan: This plan allows for a limited number of block rules (e.g., 4 block rules) and provides visitor analytics for the first 200 visits.
  • Paid/Premium Plans: These plans unlock advanced features such as the VPN blocker, allow for more block rules, and provide full access to visitor analytics data beyond the 200-visit limit.
  • Enterprise Plan: This is a higher-tier plan that offers comprehensive protection, including features for content protection (preventing copying of images, content, or code).
  • Pricing: Yearly plans are typically more cost-effective than monthly plans. Discounts (e.g., 30% off for 2 months on the Enterprise plan) may also be available to allow users to test features. You can typically view full pricing details via the "Pricing tab" or "change plan" button in the app's settings.

  1. Is there a delay when Blockify redirects blocked users?

Some users have observed a 1-2 second (or 3 second) delay before the redirect occurs. This delay happens because the Blockify app's scripts load after your website's theme scripts are loaded. The development team may look into ways to improve this behavior.

  1. Does Blockify offer content protection features?

Yes, Blockify provides features to protect your website's content. With an upgraded plan, specifically the Enterprise plan, you can activate features that prevent others from copying your content, images, or inspecting your site's code.

  1. How does Blockify protect against malware and fraudulent customers using fake credit cards?

While the app does not automatically sort suspicious behavior, you can manually monitor the "Visitor Analytics" tab to track accessed IP addresses and their risk assessment, then block them accordingly.

  • For enhanced protection, particularly against sophisticated fraud (e.g., VPN use to fake IPs) and general content security, upgrading to a paid plan (like the "Enterprise-Plan") is recommended.
  • Paid plans offer "content protection" features, which prevent anyone from copying your site's images, content, or reviewing your shop's code.

  1. Blockify is slowing down my website's loading speed. What can be done?

The development team addressed this by adding a defer attribute to the app's script to prevent it from blocking the user interface (UI) during loading. This was hypothesized to be the cause of the slow loading.

  • To apply this fix, you will need to uninstall and then reinstall the app on Wix, as Wix does not support updating scripts that have already been added to a site.
  • It is acknowledged that as a third-party app, Blockify's script will still load after the site's initial loading, meaning some minimal delay is inherent

  1. Can I block a specific ex-customer or user by their postcode or email address?

The app does not support blocking by postcode. Blocking is currently only possible by country, IP, URL, ISP, and user agent.

Similarly, the app does not have an option to block by email address.

For specific individuals, it is recommended to obtain their IP address (e.g., by checking your analytics or asking them to use an IP lookup tool like https://whatismyipaddress.com/) and then manually block that IP

  1. Why do bots still appear on my Wix dashboard even after blocking them?

The app's code loads after Wix's code. Therefore, blocked visitors might still appear on the Wix dashboard for a moment, but they will be prevented from performing other actions and will not be able to access your store. You are advised to continue monitoring these occurrences

  1. My Google Ads account was suspended due to "unsafe redirection" or malware. Can Blockify help?

The user can contact the Wix support team directly via email or LiveChat for assistance, as this type of issue typically stems from site content/settings outside the Blockify app's direct control.

  1. Does "province" in premium blocking refer to US states?

Yes "province" indeed means state in the US for blocking purposes

  1. Can I get a copy of my chat conversation with support?

Yes, we can send you the chat transcript via email (CS agent click to send the transcript manually using Crisp function)

  1. I don't understand the English interface of the app.

Support agents are willing to explain the sections and functionalities of the app to help users navigate and understand it

  1. I am unable to access my website on my phone via apartment internet, but cellular data works.

This issue might be related to certain browser features (like Safari's "Private Relay") that change the IP address to a VPN. Enabling a specific function in the app might resolve this issue

  1. I am unsure how to upgrade/change my plan within the app.

The user needs to go to the "change plan" option within the app, which is where they can upgrade. That charges are processed via Wix Payment

  1. The app's bypass code or restriction code needs to be manually integrated.

Please kindly open the Custom code and add our app's bypass code
