Auto-collapse banner on scroll
Auto-collapse on Scroll
Overview
Auto-collapse on Scroll lets the cookie banner collapse into a small floating button after a visitor scrolls down the page.
This helps reduce interruption while still keeping the banner easy to reopen. The feature is optional and can be turned on only for supported banner layouts.
How it works
When the feature is enabled, the banner automatically collapses after the visitor scrolls past 200 px.
The collapsed state appears as a floating cookie icon positioned the same way as the re-open button. It is different from the standard re-open button, but it is designed to stay visually consistent with it.
Before consent is given, the behavior is bi-directional:
- Scrolling past 200 px collapses the banner.
- Scrolling back above 200 px expands the banner again.
After consent is given, the behavior becomes one-way for each open cycle:
- Scrolling past 200 px collapses the banner.
- Scrolling back up does not automatically expand it again.
- The visitor must click the collapsed button or the re-open button to show the banner again.
Supported layouts
Auto-collapse on Scroll is available for:
- Corner layouts.
- Full-Width Top or Full-Width Bottom layouts when banner width is set to 100%.
The feature is not available for:
- Center layout.
- Full-width banners narrower than 100%.
- Layouts outside the supported corner and full-width options.

What happens when you enable it
When Auto-collapse on Scroll is turned on, the system automatically applies several related changes to keep the experience working correctly:
- The banner cookie icon is turned on.
- The re-open button is turned on.
- The re-open button is switched to icon mode if it was using text mode.
- The re-open button uses the same icon style as the banner for visual consistency.
- Block Interaction is turned off, because visitors must be able to scroll in order to trigger collapse.
These changes are applied automatically when the feature is enabled, but they are not automatically reverted when the feature is turned off.
Re-open button behavior
While Auto-collapse on Scroll is active, the re-open button is expected to stay in icon mode and use the same icon as the banner.
If the re-open button is changed back to text mode, Auto-collapse on Scroll is automatically turned off. This prevents a mismatch between the collapsed button and the standard re-open experience.
Position behavior
The collapsed button and the re-open button always use the same position settings.
This means both controls stay aligned in the same corner or placement, creating a consistent experience before and after consent.
Visual settings and consistency
The collapsed button uses the banner's cookie icon, not a separate custom icon.
If you later change related visual settings, the feature may still work, but changing the icon presentation away from the supported setup can reduce consistency between the collapsed button, the re-open button, and the banner.
Visitor experience
When visitors scroll down far enough, the full banner is replaced by a smaller floating icon.
Visitors can click that icon to open the banner again. After consent, the normal re-open button still remains the main way to reopen the banner in the standard post-consent flow.
Important limitations
Auto-collapse on Scroll cannot work together with Block Interaction at the same time, because Block Interaction prevents page scrolling.
The feature is also controlled by plan availability, so it is shown only for merchants whose plan includes Scroll Collapse support.
