Consentik Wix: Re-open behavior, Privacy popup and Consent timestamp
The re-open button on your site now opens a popup instead of re-showing the cookie banner, and you can choose which popup it opens. There is a new Privacy popup that shows visitors what they have already agreed to and lets them withdraw it in one click, and a new Consent timestamp option that adds the dates of their choice to both popups.
This article explains what changed, what happens automatically, and what you can configure.
What changed
The re-open button opens a popup, not the banner. Until now, a visitor who clicked the re-open button (or your footer link) saw the cookie banner again and had to go through Manage preferences to change anything. It now opens the Preferences popup directly, so they land on the category switches in one click.
You can choose what it opens. A new Re-open behavior setting gives you two options: Open preferences popup (the default) or Open privacy popup.

There is a new Privacy popup. A small card that appears in the same corner as your re-open button — it does not cover the page or block browsing. It shows the visitor:
- your title and message
- their Visitor ID
- the Consent timestamp, if you turn it on
- each cookie category with a ✔ or ✕ for what they accepted
- a Withdraw consent button and a Change settings button
There is a new Consent timestamp option. Turn it on and both popups show two dated lines — when the visitor's choices were saved and when they expire — in the visitor's own time zone, for example 6 October 2026 at 16:32 (GMT+7).

What you need to do
Nothing is required. The new behavior reaches your site automatically and your settings are kept.
Two things are worth knowing:
- Your re-open button behaves differently from today. If it is on, visitors now get the Preferences popup instead of the banner. Nothing was reset — the setting simply had no option before. If you prefer the Privacy popup, switch the radio.
- If Manage preferences is turned off, nothing changes for you. With no preferences popup to open, the re-open button keeps showing the banner. The dashboard tells you this under the radio buttons.
- Visitors are not asked again. Choices they already made stay in effect and keep their original expiry date.
Where to find the settings
In the Consentik dashboard, open Settings and go to the Behavior tab.
- Re-open behavior — in the Re-open button card, below the position and margin fields. It only appears when the re-open button is turned on.
- Popup privacy config — appears in the same card, right under the radio buttons, once you select Open privacy popup. Here you edit the popup title, message, Visitor ID title and the two button labels, and set the background, text and highlight colors. Use the Preview button to see it with sample data.
- Consent timestamp — its own card, directly below the Re-open button card, with a switch next to the title.
The preview on the right of the Settings page always renders the Privacy popup with sample data, so you can style it before any visitor has saved a choice.
What visitors see
Withdraw consent
Withdrawing erases the visitor's saved choice. They go back to undecided, exactly as if their consent had expired:
- their stored consent, including any IAB TCF consent string, is deleted
- consent is revoked for Wix, for Google Consent Mode and for Microsoft UET right away
- if you use Cross-Domain Consent Sharing, the record is cleared for every site in the group, so they are asked again everywhere
- the Preferences popup opens immediately (or the banner, if Manage preferences is off) so they can choose again
- the page is not reloaded — third-party scripts already loaded in that session stop at the next page change
If they close it without choosing anything and reload, they see the banner as on a first visit.
Change settings
This leaves the saved choice untouched and simply opens the Preferences popup (or the banner) so the visitor can edit it. Nothing changes until they save.
Consent timestamp
The two lines are read from the visitor's own saved choice. A choice saved before this update only has an expiry date, so those visitors see the expiry line alone until they next save.
The default labels are Choices saved on and Choices expire on. If you never edited them, they were updated for you: the previous wording, Consent given on and Expires at, described the record incorrectly for a visitor who declined — they gave no consent, and what expires is their choice. If you had already customised the labels, your text was kept.
In your consent log
A withdrawal is recorded as its own event and shows up in Consent log as Withdrawn, with the essential category only. It appears in the list and in exports.
It is deliberately not counted as a decline and not included in your consent rate or charts — a withdrawal is not a choice, and keeping it separate preserves the audit trail that GDPR Article 7(3) is about.
Translating the new text
All of the new text goes through Translations. Open the Translations page and look for the Text for Privacy Popup group and the two timestamp labels — both are always listed, whether or not the features are turned on.
If your site uses multiple languages, the matching fields in Settings are locked and show a Translation link that takes you straight to the right group, so each language keeps its own wording.

Who this does not affect
- Sites using the IAB TCF banner. The re-open button keeps opening the TCF banner, and the Re-open behavior and Privacy popup settings are hidden with a note in the dashboard.
- Sites still on the previous banner version. The dashboard shows a note asking you to update your banner; until then the re-open button keeps re-showing it.
- Visitors who have not answered yet. The re-open button is never shown before a first answer, so the Privacy popup cannot be reached by them.
To check your live site, open it in a private or incognito window — a normal window may still show a cached version of the banner.
