Consentik Wix: IAB TCF v2.4 update
Consentik Wix: IAB TCF v2.4 update
Consentik's TCF banner has been updated to follow IAB TCF v2.4 and TCF Policies v5.0.b, which apply to web consent management platforms from mid-October 2026. This article explains what changed and what, if anything, you need to do.
This only affects sites with the IAB TCF banner turned on. If you use the standard cookie banner, nothing in this article applies to you.
What changed
Features now show the IAB standard text. Under the Features group in the preferences popup, visitors now see a line of text, written by IAB, explaining that these means of processing are only used for purposes the visitor is given a choice about. The same line appears in the Features block of each vendor's details.
Each Feature now shows an example. Features now include a short illustration of how the processing works in practice, so visitors can see what the description means.
Special Feature 2 has a new name. It was "Actively scan device characteristics for identification". It is now "Identify devices based on information actively requested" — IAB renamed it, in every language.
The default banner text no longer says "device scanning". The sentence about geolocation and device identification in the default first message has been reworded to match the new name.
Consent records use the current TCF format. Behind the scenes, the consent string your site produces now follows the TCF v2.4 encoding your vendors expect.
What you need to do
In most cases, nothing. The changes reach your site automatically.
A few things worth knowing:
- Visitors are not asked again. Choices your visitors already made stay in effect, and their consent keeps its original expiry date — the update does not extend it.
- Nothing you wrote is overwritten. The names, descriptions and examples of Purposes, Features and Special Features come from IAB's official list, not from your settings — Consentik keeps them in sync for you, which is why the new wording arrives on its own. Every text you can edit, on the Content tab, is left exactly as you saved it: your banner messages, popup text, button labels, link text and section titles.
- The default banner message changed, but only the default. If you never edited the first message, it now uses the reworded sentence. If you did edit it, your version stays — including the old "device scanning" wording, which you may want to update by hand.
Where to see it
The preview on the right starts on the banner view, so it takes two clicks to get to the Features group:
- In the Consentik dashboard, open IAB TCF v2.4 from the left menu.
- Above the preview, click Preferences. The preferences popup replaces the banner.
- Inside the popup, click the Purposes tab. The popup opens on Vendors, so you have to switch.
You will see the standard text straight away, under the Features (3) heading, without having to open the group:
These means of processing can be used solely in pursuit of one or several purposes for which you are given a choice in this notice.
Note that the Features group has no toggle next to it. That is deliberate: under the new policies, Features may not sit beside a control the visitor cannot switch off.
Click the arrow next to a Feature to expand it and see its example. On your live banner, the same standard text also appears in the Features block of each vendor's details.
To check your live site, open it in a private or incognito window — a normal window may still show a cached version of the banner.

Why it matters
IAB Europe published TCF Policies v5.0.b on 29 May 2026, with the matching technical specification released as TCF v2.4. Consent management platforms running on the web have to follow it from mid-October 2026.
Two practical consequences:
- The standard text and examples make it clearer to visitors what each processing activity actually means.
- Vendors increasingly reject consent strings that do not match the current specification, so a banner left on the old format can lose consent signal.
This update keeps Consentik's banner aligned with the framework. Whether your site as a whole meets your legal obligations depends on how you use the data you collect — if you are unsure, ask your legal adviser.
