Getting started: Set up ChatGPT Ads tracking for your Shopify store
ChatGPT now shows ads, and like any ad platform, it optimizes better when it knows what happens after the click. Omega OpenAI Ads Pixel connects your Shopify store to ChatGPT Ads and reports five shopper actions: page views, product views, add to cart, checkout started, and purchases. The app uses Shopify's official web pixel, so nothing is added to your theme and your store speed is not affected.
Before you start, you need
- A ChatGPT Ads account with access to Ads Manager
- Omega OpenAI Ads Pixel installed on your Shopify store

The setup guide
When you open the app, the Home page shows a setup guide called "Set up ChatGPT Ads" with 4 steps. You do not need to tick anything manually: each step is marked "Done", "To do", or "Error" automatically, based on real data from your store and from ChatGPT.
Step 1: Connect ChatGPT Ads

First, get your Advertiser API key: open ChatGPT Ads Manager (the "Open Ads Manager" link in the app takes you there), go to Settings, then API keys, and create or copy the key.
Then, in the app, click "Connect", paste the key, and click "Continue". If the key is wrong, you will see an error right under the field and nothing is created.
If your account already has pixels, choose one, or pick "Create a new pixel for this store". One pixel per store is all you need. The app then runs 6 setup steps and shows the progress on screen: it creates a Conversions API key, turns on purchase tracking, and updates your storefront pixel. If a step fails, click "Continue" and it resumes from that exact step without creating duplicates.
If you see "Automatic pixel setup isn't available": ChatGPT has not enabled automatic setup for your account yet. Enter your Pixel ID and a Conversions API key (from Ads Manager, under Conversions, Conversion keys) on the same page and click "Save and check". The app verifies the key with ChatGPT before saving. You can also choose "I already have a pixel ID and a Conversions API key" if you prefer entering them yourself.
Step 2: Server key is valid
This confirms your store can send events to ChatGPT from the server, which keeps tracking working even when a shopper's browser blocks ads scripts. If you connected in Step 1, this is usually already "Done". If it shows an error, open the "Pixels" page to check the key.
Step 3: Web pixel connected

This confirms the tracking tool on your storefront is active and configured correctly. The app sets this up for you. If it ever shows an error, click "Resync web pixel".
Step 4: Events received
This turns "Done" once ChatGPT confirms it has received events from your store. To test it, visit your storefront, view a product, add it to the cart, then click "Check now" in the app. The app asks ChatGPT directly and shows how many events were received in the last 15 minutes, split by source, for example "3 from the browser, 2 from the server". You can click "Check now" once every 30 seconds.
Note: purchase events sent from the server can take a few minutes to appear, so a test order may not show up immediately. This is normal.
After setup
Once all 4 steps are "Done", your tracking is live. From here you can:
- See your ad performance on the Home page: spend, conversions, and ROAS for the last 7 days
- Review and manage your pixels on the "Pixels" page
- View and control your campaigns on the "Campaigns" page
- Adjust what data is sent in "Settings"
Good to know
- Your keys are stored encrypted and never shown in full again, only the last 4 characters. If you lose a key, create a new one in Ads Manager and use "Replace key" on the Pixels page.
- Disconnecting your account later only removes the ads key: your store keeps sending events, and you can reconnect any time. Uninstalling the app is what stops tracking completely.
If any step shows "Error" and you cannot resolve it, contact our support team and include the "Request ID" shown in the error banner. It helps us find the exact issue quickly.
