A complete guide: Visitor Analytics overview

Overview

Visitor Analytics shows who visits your store and what Blockify did with them: how many visitors got in, were blocked or were sent elsewhere, where they came from, how risky they look and how much revenue your rules are protecting or costing you. It lives in Analytics in the Blockify admin, on the Overview tab; the visitor-by-visitor log is on the Visitors tab (see Visitor logs: allowed, blocked, redirected and bot visitors).

What you'll learn

How to turn on Visitor Analytics?

Step 1: Open Analytics from the Blockify navigation.

Step 2: If Blockify is not recording visits, the page shows the banner Visitor analytics is turned off (or, on the Free plan, You're viewing demo data). Click Activate visitor analytics in the top-right corner. Blockify starts recording visits from that moment.

To stop recording, click Deactivate visitor analytics and confirm with Turn off in the Turn off visitor analytics? dialog.

Important: Turning Visitor Analytics off only stops recording. Your block, redirect and whitelist rules keep working. You can still see data from before you turned it off, but visits while it is off are lost for good and your reports show a gap for that time.

Buttons at the top of the page

The buttons in the top-right corner of the Overview tab change everything on the page:

Button

What it does

Activate visitor analytics / Deactivate visitor analytics

Starts or stops recording visits (see above).

Refresh

Reloads the page with the latest visits.

Date picker

Shows every number and chart for a day, week, month or dates you choose. The Visitors tab and Top Visited Pages use the same dates. Blockify keeps visitor data for about two months, so the picker cannot go further back than that.

Tip: You can click most numbers on this page. Click a number such as Dangerous IP and choose View these visitors (or View these orders for order metrics) to see those visitors in the visitor log.

Your key numbers

The cards at the top of the Overview tab sum up the dates you picked. "Unique visitors" counts each IP address once; "sessions" counts every visit.

The risk cards use the risk score: how risky Blockify thinks a visitor's IP address is, from 0 (safe) to 100 (dangerous).

Metric

What it counts

How to read it

Total allowed visitors

Unique visitors that got into your store because no block rule stopped them.

The real shoppers your store still serves.

Total blocked visitors

Unique visitors stopped by one of your active block rules.

How many unwanted visitors your rules keep out. Includes VPN/Proxy blocks and every other block reason.

Total blocked VPN & Proxy

Blocked unique visitors who hid their real location with a VPN, a proxy or the Tor browser.

Part of Total blocked visitors, so it is always the smaller number.

Low risk IP

Unique visitors with a risk score of 0–34, allowed and blocked combined.

Normal shoppers; blocking them costs you sales.

High risk IP

Unique visitors with a risk score of 35–66, allowed and blocked combined.

Suspicious but unproven; review before you block.

Dangerous IP

Unique visitors with a risk score of 67–100, allowed and blocked combined.

Bots and known fraud sources; block these first.

Blocked Direct Checkouts

Checkout attempts that went straight to checkout without visiting your store pages, and were blocked.

Only counts when Stop bots from creating fake checkouts is on.

The Legitimate Overview and Protection & Loss cards compare your visitors with your orders:

Metric

What it counts

How to read it

Legitimate Visitors

Allowed sessions (sessions, not unique visitors).

The real visitors your rules let in: the shoppers who can actually buy.

Returning Customers

Visitors Blockify recognises as customers who ordered more than once.

Loyal buyers you must never block by mistake.

Conversion Rate (legit)

Orders from allowed sessions ÷ allowed sessions.

Tells you whether tighter blocking is hurting sales.

Revenue from legit

The value of orders placed from the IP addresses of allowed visitors.

Revenue your rules protected without getting in the way.

Revenue Protected (est)

Blocked checkout attempts × your dispute rate × average order value.

An estimate of the chargeback losses you avoided by blocking. Blockify uses a 1% dispute rate until you click Grant access to let it see your Shopify Payments disputes.

Conversion Loss due to blocking

Blocked sessions × conversion rate × average order value.

Sales you gave up to stay safe. Keep it lower than Revenue Protected.

Order counts by risk level (Total orders, low, medium and high risk) are on the Orders tab; see A complete guide: Fraud Filters.

When and where visitors come from

Below the key numbers, the Visitor Trends section splits the same dates by time, place, browser and device.

All visits, allowed and blocked, grouped by weekday and hour in your local time. Busiest Day and Busiest Time show the weekday and hour with the most visits, which is when your store gets the most attention, good and bad. Use it to choose when to change your rules.

Visitor traffic chart

Visits per day over the selected range. Switch the line between Allowed visitor, Blocked visitor and Redirected visitor to see whether a sudden jump in visits was real shoppers or an attack your rules stopped.

Visitors by country

A world map with unique visitors per country; darker means more. Switch between Allowed visitor heatmap, Blocked visitor heatmap and Redirected visitor heatmap. If a country stands out on the blocked map, think about a rule for that whole country.

Top 5 Browsers, Top 5 OS and Top 5 ISP

Three tables with the five most common browsers, operating systems (for example Windows, iOS or Android) and internet providers (ISP). Switch each between All and High risk to see what risky visitors have in common, then block it with a User agent or ISP rule. Marked Paid plan.

Top visited pages

Below the charts, the Top Visited Pages table lists your store pages by how many visits they got in the dates you picked and how many of those Blockify allowed or blocked. You can see at a glance which pages bots keep hitting and which pages real shoppers care about. It uses the dates you picked at the top of the page; only pages visited in that time appear, and visits made while Visitor Analytics was off are not recorded.

Columns

Column

Meaning

Page URL

The address of the visited page, for example /products/floral-frayed-hem-denim-shorts or /cart. A single / is your home page. Hover over an address to see a copy icon and click it to copy the address.

Total visits

All visits to that page in the date range, allowed and blocked.

Allowed visits

Visits Blockify let through.

Blocked visits

Visits Blockify stopped.

% blocked

Blocked visits as a share of total visits. A high percentage usually means bots or fraudsters are targeting that page.

Sorting, searching and export

  • Click a column name to sort; an arrow shows the direction, and a second click flips it. Sort by % blocked to find pages under attack, or by Allowed visits to see what real shoppers view most.
  • Type at least 4 characters of a page address in the search box (for example /product) to show only matching pages.
  • Change the dates at the top of the page to look at a different period.
  • Click Export at the top right of the table to get the list as a spreadsheet file. The file uses the dates and sort order you picked.

Tip: Cart and checkout pages with a high % blocked usually mean bots are creating fake checkouts. Pair this table with the Blocked visitors tab, filtered by Block reason, to see which rule stopped them.

Free plan limits

On the Free plan Visitor Analytics works with two limits:

  • Blockify records a limited number of visitors: the first 200 unique visitors. When you reach the limit, the page shows Analytics limit reached on the Free plan with the date recording stopped, and Blockify no longer records new visitors.
  • The Overview shows the Last 7 days only.

Important: Your store is still protected when the log is full. The limit only stops recording; every block, redirect and whitelist rule keeps working as usual. Upgrade to see all your visitors again, or click Increase limit on the banner.

Who can use this feature?

Visitor Analytics is available on every plan with the limits above. Full visitor analytics is listed on the Enterprise plan. The Top 5 lists are available on paid plans. Top Visited Pages is available on every plan.

FAQs

  1. Why does Shopify Analytics (or Google Analytics) still show visitors from a country I blocked?

Shopify counts every visitor the moment they arrive, before any app can check them, so a blocked visit still counts as a session there. Those sessions are visitors Blockify stopped right away. Use Blockify's Analytics to see who was actually allowed or blocked.

  1. Why is Total blocked visitors higher than Total blocked VPN & Proxy?

Total blocked visitors counts every unique blocked visitor, whatever the reason (country, IP address, browser and device, VPN/Proxy and so on). Total blocked VPN & Proxy counts only the ones using a VPN, a proxy or the Tor browser.

  1. Why is Revenue Protected (est) an estimate?

It multiplies blocked checkout attempts by your dispute rate and average order value. Until you give Blockify access to your Shopify Payments disputes, it uses a 1% dispute rate.

  1. I turned Visitor Analytics off for a week. Can I get that week back?

No. Blockify does not record visits while it is off, and they cannot be brought back. Data from before and after the gap stays as it is.

  1. Do blocked visits in Top Visited Pages match Total blocked visitors?

Not exactly. The table counts visits (one visitor can open several pages), while Total blocked visitors counts unique IP addresses.

  1. Can I block a page straight from the Top Visited Pages table?

No. Copy the page address with the copy icon, then create a Block specific page rule under Block & Re-director > Blacklist > Block. See Block products, collections and specific pages.
