How to check if Google Ads events are working

This guide shows you how to check whether your Google Ads events are firing correctly on your store.
You can check events in two ways:

  1. Use a browser extension to confirm that events are firing on your storefront.
  2. Check your Google tag status and stats in Google Ads.

  1. Install the extension
  • Install the browser extension: Tag Explorer.
  • After installing it, open your store and turn on debug mode in the extension.

  1. Trigger the event on your store
  • Go to your storefront and perform the action you want to test.
  • For example, if you want to check the Add to Cart event, open a product page and add a product to the cart.

  1. Find the event in the extension
  • Click the Search icon in the extension.
  • Select Google Ads Remarketing, then expand the event details.
  • If the event is active, you should see it listed there.

  1. Open your data sources
  • Open your Google Ads account
  • Go to: Tools → Audience Manager → Your data sources → Go to Data manager

  1. View Google tag stats
  • Find your Google tag.
  • Click the ⋮ icon next to the Google tag, then select View stats.
  • Here, you can review the tag activity and confirm whether Google Ads is receiving data.

The browser extension can help you check whether events are firing on your store in real time.

However, Google Ads stats may take time to update. If you have just installed or updated your tracking setup, wait up to 24-48 hours before checking the final status in Google Ads.
