Meta Pixel & Conversions API — How It Works

Every sale starts with data. Meta needs accurate signals from your store to know who's buying, so it can find more buyers like them. The more complete your tracking, the better your ads perform.

What are Pixel and CAPI?

Think of tracking as a bridge between your store and Meta. This bridge allows Meta to understand your buyers' behavior so it can optimize your ads for the best results. Currently, there are two ways to build this bridge:

  • Meta Pixel (Browser-side): A small script on your storefront that fires events directly from the customer's browser when they view products, add to cart, or purchase.

How to create a Meta Pixel

Limitation: Privacy updates (like iOS 14) and ad blockers can prevent it from firing, leading to missing data.

  • Conversion API / CAPI (Server-side): A direct connection between your server and Meta. It doesn't rely on the browser, so ad blockers can't interfere.
The Power of Both: When Pixel and CAPI run in parallel, they cover each other's blind spots. You get complete, reliable data — and Meta's algorithm has everything it needs to optimize your ads.
