Auto-tag and block high-risk customers at checkout
Overview
Stop a customer who placed a risky order from ordering again. When Shopify rates an order as High risk, Auto-tag and block high-risk customers at checkout adds the tag blockify-high-risk to that customer in Shopify. From then on, the customer can't complete checkout on your store. It is a single checkbox under Quick Setup on the Block Checkout page.

How to enable Auto-tag and block high-risk customers at checkout?
Step 1: Tick the checkbox
Go to Block Checkout and find the Quick Setup section at the top. Tick Auto-tag and block high-risk customers at checkout.

Step 2: Grant permission
If a Grant permission window opens, click Grant permission. Shopify takes you to a screen where you approve the permission to edit customers, then brings you back to Blockify with the box ticked.
Step 3: Save
Click Save. Blockify adds a rule to your Block checkout fields list: Customer tag contains any of: blockify-high-risk. This rule does the blocking, so keep it switched on.

How it works?
- Blockify reads the risk level Shopify gives each order. Only orders rated High count; Medium and Low orders are left alone. You can't change this level.
- The customer of that order gets the
blockify-high-risktag in Shopify. A customer with several high-risk orders is tagged once. You can see the tag on the customer's page under Customers in your Shopify admin.

- When a tagged customer tries to check out while signed in to their account, checkout stops and they see the Error message you set under Quick Setup.

- It works on its own: you don't need to turn on Fraud Filters or any other protection. It covers orders Blockify receives after you tick the box; older orders aren't tagged.
- The high-risk order itself is not cancelled or changed. What happens to it depends on the actions you chose in Fraud Filters.
How to unblock a customer?
If a real customer was tagged by mistake, open Customers in your Shopify admin, find the customer and remove the blockify-high-risk tag. They can check out again straight away, and Blockify won't tag them again for later orders.
To stop blocking everyone, untick the box and click Save. Blockify removes the Customer tag rule, so no tagged customer is blocked. The tags stay on the customers in Shopify, so if you tick the box again, they are blocked again.
Who can use this feature?
Available on the Enterprise and Shopify Plus plans.
FAQs
- Why wasn't a customer tagged after a high-risk order?
The order wasn't rated High by Shopify, the order had no customer profile, the order came in before you ticked the box, or you removed the tag from this customer before.
- I deleted the Customer tag rule by accident. How do I get it back?
Untick Auto-tag and block high-risk customers at checkout, click Save, then tick it again and click Save. The rule is added back.
- Does this block the customer from browsing my store?
No. It only stops checkout. To block a visitor from your whole store, use Auto-block visitors placing fraud orders or add their IP in Block & Re-director.
