Block disposable email addresses
Overview
Stop people from using throwaway emails to abuse your promotions or place fraudulent orders. Disposable (temporary) email addresses from services such as 10minutemail or mailinator are rarely used by real customers. Block disposable email addresses compares the email a visitor enters with Blockify's list of known disposable email services, which we keep up to date for you. There are two switches: one for Checkout (Block Checkout > Quick Setup) and one for Subscribe forms (Settings > Risk Mitigator).

How to block disposable emails at checkout?
Step 1: Open Quick Setup
Go to Block Checkout and find the Quick Setup section at the top of the page.
Step 2: Tick the checkbox
Tick Block checkout from disposable or temporary email addresses. The setting applies immediately.

A shopper who enters a disposable email at checkout sees the Error message configured under Quick Setup — by default "Order cannot be placed due to suspected fraud." — and the order is not created. Edit that field to match your store's tone of voice.
How to block disposable emails on subscribe forms?
Step 1: Open Risk Mitigator
Go to Settings > Risk Mitigator.

Step 2: Turn the switch on
Find Block disposable email addresses on subscribe forms and toggle it to On. Visitors using a disposable provider will not be able to submit your newsletter form.

How it works?
Switch | Where | What is blocked | Message shown |
|---|---|---|---|
Block checkout from disposable or temporary email addresses | Block Checkout > Quick Setup | Completing a checkout with a disposable email | The Quick Setup Error message |
Block disposable email addresses on subscribe forms | Settings > Risk Mitigator | Submitting your newsletter signup form with a disposable email | The visitor can't send the form |
Blockify only looks at the domain of the address (the part after @) and compares it with the disposable list. It does not check whether the mailbox really exists:
[email protected]→ blocked, whether or not the address is real.[email protected]→ not blocked, even if the address does not exist.
Who can use this feature?
- Checkout switch: available on the Shopify Plus plan.
- Subscribe forms switch: available on the Plus and Enterprise plans.
FAQs
- Can I add my own domains to the list?
Not from this switch. To block a specific domain at checkout, create a Block checkout fields rule with the Email condition and enter the domain as a word (for example tempmail). See Block checkout by email, phone, name, address or customer tag.
- Can I allow one disposable domain that my customers use?
No. You can't edit the list. Turn the switch off if it blocks addresses you want to accept.
- Will existing subscribers be removed?
No. The subscribe-form switch only stops new sign-ups.
