Articles on: [Shopify Platform] Blockify - Fraud IP Blocker

Block or redirect by country

Overview

Stop or redirect shoppers from countries you don't sell to, or keep only the countries you serve and block or redirect everyone else. Blockify works out a visitor's country from their IP address. Rules live in Block & Re-director > Blacklist under Block location or Redirect location.

What you'll learn

How to block or redirect a country?

Step 1: Open Block & Re-director > Blacklist, choose Block or Redirect, then click Block location or Redirect location.

Step 2: Set the status: Enable applies the rule on save, Disable stores it without applying it.

Step 3: Redirect rules only: fill in Redirect to (External URL or Shopify Market) and Displayed name (optional). See Use a Shopify Market as your redirect destination.

Step 4: Under Select condition, pick Country, choose a mode (below), select the countries and click Save.

Block mode options

Block mode has two choices.

Block mode

What it does

Country picker

Plan

Block specific countries

Blocks the countries you select

Select countries to block: countries or a predefined region (EU countries, Non EU countries, Non US countries, Africa countries, Non Africa countries, Non AUS countries)

All plans

Block all except

Blocks every country except the ones you select

Select countries to ALLOW (everyone else is blocked); no country groups in this mode

Paid plans

Important: Block all except shows a banner such as "This will block visitors from all countries except Australia. Make sure this is intentional." Make sure your own country is in the allowed list.

Redirect mode options

Redirect mode mirrors the block modes; matching visitors go to the destination in Redirect to.

Redirect mode

Redirect specific countries

Redirects the countries you select

Select country

Redirect all except

Keeps the selected countries on this store, redirects everyone else

Select countries to KEEP on this store (everyone else is redirected)

The rule list shows a Redirect all except rule's countries under Countries kept on this store. Only one such rule can exist; if one is saved, Blockify asks you to edit it instead.

The order Blockify checks your rules

With several country redirect rules, check the Evaluation order column of the rule list in Block & Re-director > Blacklist. It shows the order Blockify checks your rules of each type; the first rule a visitor matches wins, and Blockify sets the order. A rule an earlier rule already covers shows a Never reached badge in its Description ("Rule 1 already redirects visitors from France, so they never reach this rule."); a partial overlap shows "Visitors from Canada are redirected by rule 1 first."

Who can use this feature?

Specific-country rules are available on all plans (Free plan: 2 active rules). Block all except is available on paid plans.

FAQs

  1. How do I allow only one country to access my store?

Use Block all except with that country selected. See How to allow only one country to access my store?.

  1. I blocked my own country and cannot open my store. What now?

Use the Admin's access URL in Settings > General settings or whitelist your IP. See How can I access my store if I have blocked my own country?.

  1. Why is a rule marked Never reached?

An earlier rule in the Evaluation order column already redirects every country in it. Edit or delete one of the two rules.
