Block or redirect by IP address
Overview
Block or redirect visitors by their IP address, the number that identifies their internet connection. You can list single addresses, the first part that addresses start with, or a whole block of addresses, and either block the visitor or redirect them elsewhere. Rules live in Block & Re-director > Blacklist under Block IP Address or Redirect IP Address.
What you'll learn
How to block or redirect an IP address?
Step 1: Open Block & Re-director > Blacklist, choose Block or Redirect, then click Block IP Address or Redirect IP Address.

Step 2: Set the status: Enable applies the rule as soon as you save, Disable stores it without applying it.

Step 3: Redirect rules only: fill in Redirect to (External URL or Shopify Market) and Displayed name (optional). See Use a Shopify Market as your redirect destination.

Step 4: Under Select condition, pick IP address, IP start with or IP Range, fill in the fields (table below) and click Save.

How it works?
A visitor matches when their IP address fits any entry in the rule. Both IP address formats, IPv4 and IPv6, work.
Select condition | What to enter | Example | Matches |
|---|---|---|---|
IP address | One or more full addresses, Manual or Upload CSV |
| Exactly that address |
IP start with | The first part of an address, Manual or Upload CSV |
| Every address beginning with that text |
IP Range with Select IP range type = CIDR | A whole block of addresses written like the example, Manual or Upload CSV |
| Every address in that block |
IP Range with Select IP range type = Range | Start IP and End IP |
| Every address between the two, inclusive |
Manual vs Upload CSV
- Manual: type the entries in the input field.
- Upload CSV: click Upload CSV and pick a file. Download the sample file from the link in the form to see the format.

Rules added by Blockify

Rules added by Auto-block visitors placing fraud orders are IP address rules too; their Source reads Auto-block with the order number, and the Source filter set to Auto-block lists them all. See A complete guide: Block & Redirect rules.
Who can use this feature?
IP address and IP start with rules are available on all plans (Free plan: 2 active rules). IP Range, with CIDR or Range, is available on the Enterprise plan and above.
FAQs
- Can I block my own IP address by mistake?
Yes. If you lock yourself out, use the Admin's access URL in Settings > General settings. See How can I access my store if I have blocked my own country?.
- How many addresses can one rule hold?
A CSV import holds up to 500 rows. For larger lists, use IP start with or IP Range to cover many addresses in one entry.
- How do I know how many visitors a rule blocked?
Open Analytics > Visitors, filter by Block reason and set a date range. There is no counter on the rule itself.
- Does a whitelist rule override an IP block?
Yes. Whitelist rules are checked first, so a whitelisted IP gets in even if it also matches a block rule.
