Configure Tor blocker
Overview
Keep out visitors who hide who and where they are. Tor blocker stops visitors who use the Tor browser, which hides a visitor's real IP address and location. Tor is a common source of fraud attempts, content copying and abuse. You turn it on in Settings > Risk Mitigator, and there is nothing else to set up.
What you'll learn
How to enable Tor blocker?
Step 1: Go to Settings > Risk Mitigator.

Step 2: Find the Tor blocker card and turn the switch on.

Step 3: Click Save. The change applies to new visits straight away. To stop blocking Tor visitors, turn the switch off and save again.
How it works?
- When the switch is on, every visitor using Tor sees your blocking page (set under Settings > Blocking template) instead of the store.
- There is nothing to adjust: Tor visitors are either blocked or allowed. If you want to block by risk level instead, use Configure Proxy and VPN blocker.
- Blocked Tor visits appear in the Analytics blocked visitors log with the Tor block reason, so you can filter them by Block reason and date range.
- Blockify checks your whitelist rules first. A visitor on your whitelist is allowed even when they use Tor.
Who can use this feature?
Available on the Enterprise plan and above.
FAQs
- What is Tor?
Tor (The Onion Router) is a free browser that sends a visitor's connection through several volunteer computers, so their real IP address and location stay hidden. Learn more at torproject.org.
- Will this block customers using a normal VPN?
No. Tor blocker only blocks Tor visitors. To block VPN and proxy visitors, use Configure Proxy and VPN blocker.
- Can I allow one Tor user I trust?
Add their IP address or email to the Whitelist tab in Block & Re-director. Blockify checks whitelist rules before this blocker.
- How do I know how many Tor visits were blocked?
Open the blocked visitors log in Analytics and filter Block reason by Tor for the period you want.
