Delivery zone: Set up delivery by state/province and city
Delivery zone lets you control exactly where you deliver. First choose the states/provinces you serve, then — if you want to go more precise — limit each state to specific cities. This is perfect when you deliver around your store rather than across a whole state.
Overview
Delivery zone controls where customers are allowed to book a delivery. You pick the states/provinces you serve, and you can optionally restrict each state to only the cities you actually deliver to. Customers outside your served area won't be able to place a delivery order, which cuts down on orders you have to cancel or refund.
Before you start
- Your store is on the Smart plan or above.
- DingDoong app is installed on your Shopify store.
- Your store location is set to the country you deliver in (the state/province list is based on your store location's country).
Part A — Set up your delivery zone by state/province
Here's how, step by step:
Step 1: Open Delivery settings
In the DingDoong admin, go to Delivery settings and scroll to the Delivery zone card.

Step 2: Select the states/provinces you serve
In the States/Provinces field, add the states you deliver to. Only states within your store location's country are shown. Each selected state appears as its own block with an "All cities" badge by default.

Step 3: Save
Click Save. At this point every selected state delivers to all of its cities. If that's all you need, you're done — jump to the storefront preview below.
Part B — Narrow a state down to specific cities (optional)
Do this only for states where you want to deliver to certain cities instead of the whole state.
Step 4: Turn on "Target specific cities only" & choose city you want
Inside the state block you want to limit, switch on the Target specific cities only toggle. The badge changes from "All cities" to a city count.

Step 5: Save
Click Save. Repeat Steps 4–5 for any other state you want to restrict.
How it looks on the storefront
When a state is set to specific cities, customers see an extra City dropdown after choosing their state. If your store serves more than one country, they'll also see a Country dropdown first. Customers can only complete a delivery booking if their city is one you serve.

Common scenarios
Deliver to the whole state
Leave the state on its default "All cities" badge — don't touch the toggle. Every city in that state can order.
Deliver only around your store
Turn on Target specific cities only for that state and add just the nearby cities you actually cover.
Mix full-state and city-limited states
You can configure each state independently — some on "All cities", others limited to specific cities — in the same delivery zone.
Configuration options
Option | Description | Default | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
States/Provinces | The states/provinces you deliver to | Empty | Only states within your store location's country appear; at least one state is required to save |
Target specific cities only | Restricts a state to selected cities instead of the whole state | Off ("All cities") | When on, you must add at least one city or you can't save |
Select cities | The cities served within that state | Empty | City list comes from the state's location data; a state with no city data shows "No cities available for this state" |
Tips & Best practices
Troubleshooting
I can't save after turning on "Target specific cities only"?
Once the toggle is on, at least one city is required. Add a city in Select cities, or turn the toggle off to go back to "All cities".
There are no cities to choose for my state?
City options come from the location data for that country and state. If none are available, the field shows "No cities available for this state" — in that case, keep the state on "All cities".
My state/province isn't in the list?
The state list is based on your store location's country. Make sure you have a store location set for that country.
A state shows "already used in other zones"?
The same state can't be used in more than one delivery zone. Remove it from the other zone first, or pick a different state.
FAQ
Will this change my existing delivery zones?
No. Every state you already added stays on "All cities" and behaves exactly as before. City targeting only applies to states where you switch the toggle on yourself.
How do I undo city targeting?
Open the state block and switch Target specific cities only off. The state goes back to "All cities" and delivers to the whole state again.
What happens if I remove a state that has cities configured?
DingDoong shows a confirmation popup, and removing the state deletes all of its configured cities.
