How to Use Post-Purchase Pages with Blockify Checkout

Overview

Post-purchase pages are the pages your customers see after they place an order β€” the Thank You Page and the Order Status Page. With Blockify Checkout, you can add components like product offers, trust badges, and custom banners to these pages to drive more revenue and build customer loyalty.

If you're on a Free, Basic, or Premium plan, post-purchase pages are where Blockify Checkout works for you. They're available on every plan, and they reach your customer at one of the most valuable moments in the entire buying journey.

Why the Checkout Page Is Locked

You may have noticed the Checkout Page item in the sidebar shows a lock icon and a Plus badge. This is a Shopify restriction, not a Blockify limitation.

Shopify only allows apps to customize the checkout page itself for stores on the Shopify Plus plan. On Free, Basic, and Premium plans, the checkout page is closed to all third-party apps β€” so no app, including Blockify Checkout, can place content there.

The good news: the pages that come right after checkout β€” the Thank You Page and the Order Status Page β€” are open to your plan. That's where this guide comes in.

Why Post-Purchase Pages Work So Well

The moment a customer finishes an order is one of the best moments to talk to them. They've just decided to trust you with their money, the purchase is fresh and exciting, and they have no buyer's regret yet. They're in a "yes" state of mind.

That makes the Thank You Page and Order Status Page powerful real estate. A second offer here doesn't feel pushy β€” it feels like a natural next step. And because the customer already trusts your store, conversion rates on post-purchase offers are often far higher than on a cold product page.

You also reach customers more than once. The Thank You Page shows immediately after the order. The Order Status Page is the page customers return to whenever they want to check their shipping status β€” so it can be seen several times before the package even arrives.

Use Cases

Here are three components you can add to your post-purchase pages, and the goal each one is best suited for.

Product Offer β€” Upsell a second purchase

Add a Product Offer to recommend a related or complementary product right after checkout. Because the customer is still in buying mode, a well-matched offer can turn one order into two with very little friction.

Example: A customer buys a coffee machine β€” show them a Product Offer for coffee beans or a descaling kit.

Custom Field β€” Collect extra information from customers

Custom fields let you ask customers for extra details β€” a gift message, delivery instructions, a tax or business ID, or a quick preference. Many merchants want this at checkout, but Shopify reserves checkout custom fields for Plus stores.

Adding a Custom Field to your Thank You Page is the workaround: you still capture the information you need, right after the order is placed, while the customer is engaged and happy to help.

Example: Add a custom field asking "Any delivery instructions?" or "Add a gift message" so you can fulfill the order exactly the way the customer wants.

Custom Banner β€” Promote a follow-up offer or message

A Custom Banner is a flexible block of text and imagery you fully control. Use it to share a discount code for the next order, invite customers to follow you on social media, or announce a loyalty program.

Example: Display a banner with "Get 10% off your next order β€” use code WELCOME10" to encourage repeat purchases.

Step-by-Step: Add a Component to a Post-Purchase Page

You don't need to be technical to set this up. Here's the path.

Step 1: Open Blockify Checkout from your Shopify admin.

Step 2: Go to the Select Component screen. In the sidebar, find the Pages section.

Step 3: Choose the page you want to customize β€” Thank You Page or Order Status Page. (The Checkout Page item is locked, so skip it β€” see the section above for why.)

Step 4: Browse the component gallery and pick the component you want to add β€” for example, Product Offer, Custom Field, or Custom Banner.

Step 5: Configure the component's content and settings, then save. Your component is now live on that post-purchase page.

You can repeat these steps to add components to both pages, and add more than one component per page.

FAQ & Notes

Q: Which plans can use post-purchase pages? A: Every plan. The Thank You Page and Order Status Page are available on Free, Basic, Premium, and Shopify Plus.

Q: Why don't my components show up on the checkout page? A: Components added to the Thank You Page or Order Status Page appear only on those pages β€” not on the checkout page. Customizing the checkout page itself requires Shopify Plus, because Shopify restricts checkout-page editing to Plus stores.

Q: What's the difference between the Thank You Page and the Order Status Page? A: The Thank You Page appears immediately after a customer places an order. The Order Status Page is the page customers return to later to track their order, so it can be viewed multiple times before delivery.

Q: Can I add more than one component to a page? A: Yes. You can add multiple components to each post-purchase page.

Q: If I upgrade to Shopify Plus, will the Checkout Page unlock? A: Yes. Once your store is on Shopify Plus, the Checkout Page item unlocks and you can customize it like any other page. You may need to refresh the app for the change to appear.

Note: Changes you make may take a short moment to reflect on your live store. If you don't see a component right away, refresh your store page after a minute.
