Set up Blockify for your first use case

Overview

When you open Blockify for the first time, a few short setup steps help you turn on the protection that matches the problem you want to stop. Pick the problem, set it up right there, turn Blockify on in your theme, and you land on Home with the right protection already running. You can add more protections later from the Recommended set up panel on the Home page.

What you'll learn

Step 1: Pick what you want to stop

If you manage several stores, Blockify first asks Do you manage more than one store?; answer it or click Skip and set up manually.

Blockify then asks What do you want Blockify to stop first? and shows six situations. Pick the one you run into most often; you can add the others any time:

  • Stop orders from countries I don't sell to
  • Block the people behind fake orders I've already had
  • Stop visitors who hide their real location, and bots
  • Stop bots from creating fake checkouts and testing stolen cards (marked Popular)
  • Cancel fraud orders automatically and block the buyer
  • Stop competitors spying on and copying my store

Select a card and click Continue. The Skip link in the top-right corner takes you straight to the Home page at any step.

Step 2: Set it up

Blockify shows the settings for the situation you picked, one at a time. Set up the first one; the next one appears when you finish it. You never have to leave the setup steps.

Setting type

What you do here

Country or province rule

Choose Block specific countries or Block all except... and pick the countries. One rule can hold several countries and still counts as a single rule

IP rule

Type an IP address, the first part of an IP address or an IP range, or upload a CSV file

Protection switch

Turn the switch On (Proxy and VPN blocker, Auto-block spam bots, Protect content and so on), the same switch you see later in Settings

When a setting is done, click Save and continue.

If a setting needs a higher plan, Blockify shows it locked with the plan name and an Upgrade button. You can still continue to Step 3 and come back after upgrading.

Tip: The country list takes a few seconds to load the first time you type; wait for the suggestions, then pick the country. On the Free plan, pasting more IP addresses than you have rule slots left shows a warning: only the first ones are active until you upgrade. The Free plan allows 2 active rules.

Step 3: Turn it on

Your settings are already saved at this point, but Blockify only protects your store once its app embed is on in your theme:

  1. Click Go to Theme editor. Blockify is already switched on there; just click Save in the theme editor.
  2. Come back to this tab and click Next. Blockify checks that the app embed is on and finishes the set-up for you.

When the check passes you see Blockify is protecting your store: what is running for the situation you picked, up to two suggestions under Worth adding next, and a Go to dashboard button.

If the app embed is still off, the check fails and keeps you on this step. From the second try you can choose Finish and do this later: your settings stay saved and the Home page reminds you that the app embed is off. See Activate Blockify and the app embed for the manual steps.

On the Home page, the Your protection card lists the settings of the situation you picked with their On or Off state.

The Recommended set up panel (orange button in the bottom-left corner) tracks how many of the recommended steps are done. Click Set up on any step to jump to the right page in the app, and click Add an issue to add a second situation later. Completed steps stay in the list with a tick.

If you skipped the setup steps without picking a situation, the Home page shows the four-step Set up Blockify panel instead.

Who can use this feature?

Available on all plans when you first install Blockify. Stores that already finished their first setup are not asked to go through it again.

FAQs

  1. Can I go through the setup steps again?

No. Once you reach the Home page, use the Recommended set up panel instead: Add an issue gives you the same list of situations and adds the set-up steps for the one you pick.

  1. I skipped the setup steps. Did I lose anything?

No. Every setting you saved before clicking Skip stays saved. The Home page shows the Set up Blockify panel so you can finish the remaining steps in any order.

  1. Where do I change a setting I made during setup?

In the same place as any other setting: rules under Block & Re-director, protection switches under Settings > Risk Mitigator, Settings > Bot Mitigator or Settings > Content protection, order actions under Fraud Filters. The Your protection card on Home links to each of them.

  1. Why does the card-testing situation ask whether I use express checkout or POS?

Fake-checkout protection is not yet available for stores that use express checkout buttons or Shopify POS. If you answer yes, Blockify does not turn it on and invites you to contact the Blockify team so they can check your set-up.
