Setup Order Limits for Product & Cart Page

How to Set Up Order Limits (Product & Cart Page)

Overview

Order Limits lets you set quantity or value rules on your product pages and cart page, so customers see when an order doesn't meet your requirements and can fix it right away — before they ever reach checkout. It also adds a protection layer: the limit is enforced all the way through, including fast payment buttons like Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Shop Pay, so it can't be bypassed.
Order Limits counts as a checkout rule. You can create 1 rule on Free, 3 rules on Basic, and unlimited rules on Premium and Plus. Using more than one condition in a single rule requires Premium or higher.

Best Practices / Use Cases

Use Order Limits when you want customers to adjust their cart early instead of hitting a wall at checkout. Common setups:

  • Limit high-demand products per customer — for example, allow a maximum of 2 units of a limited-edition item so more customers get a fair chance.
  • Set a minimum order — require a minimum quantity or cart value before customers can check out.
  • Sell in packs or multiples — only allow quantities in multiples (for example, 6 / 12 / 24).

Because the message appears directly on the product and cart page, customers understand the rule and adjust their quantity themselves — a smoother experience that helps reduce abandoned carts.

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Open Blockify Checkout in your Shopify admin.
Step 2: Go to Checkout Rules, then in the Product page & Cart page section, click Order Limits.

Step 3: Create a new rule to open the rule builder.
Step 4: Choose a Rule status. Select Active to make it live, Draft to save without publishing, or Test Mode to test the rule safely without affecting real customers.
Step 5: Enter a Rule name. This is for your internal reference only and isn't shown to customers.

Step 6: Under IF, set your Condition. For example, choose Product quantity, search for and select the product, then set the allowed range in Customer buys from [ ] to [ ] items. The rule triggers when a customer's quantity falls within (or outside) the range you define.

Step 7: (Premium and above) Click + Add condition to combine multiple conditions with AND/OR logic — for example, a quantity limit that only applies to a specific customer group.

Step 8: Under THEN → Message behavior, write the message customers will see when the rule is triggered, such as "This product's quantity doesn't meet the checkout requirements. Please adjust the quantity to continue."

Step 9: Use the Preview panel on the right to check how your message appears, then set the rule to Active and save.

FAQ / Notes

Q: Does Order Limits work with express checkout like Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Shop Pay? A: Yes. The limit is enforced on the server through to order completion, so it applies even when a customer uses a fast payment button.
Q: Which plans can use Order Limits? A: All plans. It counts as a checkout rule — Free allows 1 rule, Basic allows 3, and Premium and Plus are unlimited. Adding more than one condition to a single rule requires Premium or higher.
Q: Can I change the color of the warning banner? A: Not from the app yet. If you'd like the banner to match your theme, contact our support team and we'll help you with custom CSS.
Q: Why don't I see conditions like shipping address or payment method? A: Order Limits runs on the product and cart page, where that information isn't available yet. Only conditions based on the cart and customer (such as quantity, cart value, product, collection, customer tags, or B2B) are offered here.

Note: A misconfigured limit can block real customers from checking out. Use Test Mode to try a rule safely before setting it to Active.
