Using Shopify rates

Using Shopify rates

Prefer to charge for delivery/shipping through Shopify's native rate settings? Here's how Shopify rates work with DingDoong.

Available on all plans (rates are configured in your Shopify admin). For in-app rate management, see Rates by DingDoong (Essential+).

Overview

DingDoong displays your delivery method and date picker; Shopify can handle the actual rate shown at checkout. Shopify rates suit merchants who want flat, price-based, weight-based, free, or carrier-calculated shipping.

If you use the checkout date picker, we recommend DingDoong rates instead to avoid checkout conflicts.

Before you start

  • You can access Shopify admin → Settings → Shipping and delivery.

Set up shipping rates for all products

  1. Go to Shopify admin → Settings → Shipping and delivery → General shipping rates.
  2. Add rate — set the rate name, delivery description, and amount; preview on the checkout page.
  3. Add conditions for min/max order price or weight ranges as needed.

Set up rates for specific products

  1. Create a custom shipping zone/profile.
  2. Add the products, add the shipping zone, then add rates — same as above, but scoped to those products.

Shopify product-specific rates

Set up local delivery rates (ZIP codes / radius)

  1. Go to Settings → Shipping and delivery → Local delivery.
  2. Turn on Local delivery and choose the zone type: postal/ZIP codes or maximum radius.
  3. Add conditional pricing by order value if needed (e.g., $5 over $5, $3 over $10, free over $20).
  4. Save and preview at checkout.

Common scenarios

Simple flat shipping

One flat rate for all orders.

Free shipping over a threshold

Price-based rate set to $0 above your threshold.

Real-time carrier pricing

Use carrier-calculated rates for accurate per-parcel costs.

Tips & Best practices

If you already configured rates in Shopify and switch a method to "Use rates by Shopify" in DingDoong, click Sync rate from Shopify so DingDoong reflects them.

For the smoothest checkout with the date picker, consider moving rates into DingDoong rates.

Troubleshooting

Rates don't show at checkout?

Confirm the rate's zone covers the customer's address and any price/weight conditions are met.

DingDoong isn't using my Shopify rates?

Select "Use rates by Shopify" for that method and click Sync rate from Shopify.

FAQ

Does DingDoong define rates itself?

DingDoong can, via Rates by DingDoong (Essential+). Otherwise rates come from Shopify.

Can I use carrier-calculated rates?

Yes — they're a Shopify feature; configure them in Shipping and delivery.
