Auto-block visitors placing fraud orders

Overview

Auto-block visitors placing fraud orders adds the IP address of every new high-risk order to your Blacklist, so the same visitor cannot come back and place another one. It follows the Order type Shopify gives each order, and you do not have to create any rules yourself. The card lives under Fraud Filters, next to Risk-based actions.

What you'll learn

Requirement

Fraud Filters must be turned on. See A complete guide: Fraud Filters.

How to enable Auto-block visitors placing fraud orders?

Step 1: Open Fraud Filters in the Blockify sidebar.

Step 2: Find the Auto-block visitors placing fraud orders card and switch it on. If Blockify asks for permission to see your orders, approve it.

There is nothing else to set up. Switch the card off at any time to stop Blockify adding new rules; rules already added stay in your Blacklist.

How it works?

  • Each time Shopify rates a new order High risk, Blockify creates a Block rule for the order's IP address in Block & Re-director > Blacklist. From then on, anyone visiting from that IP address sees your blocking page.
  • Only orders placed after you switch the feature on count. IP addresses from earlier high-risk orders are not added; use Block IP in the order list if you want to block them by hand.
  • Medium-risk and low-risk orders never create rules.
  • The order itself is not changed. To cancel or flag it as well, set that up in Configure risk-based actions for fraud orders.

Important: The Fraud order score and Order type come from Shopify's own fraud check. Blockify blocks the IP address based on Shopify's rating; it does not rate orders itself.

Important: If you move to a plan that does not include this feature, it stops creating rules. Rules it already created remain in your Blacklist.

Finding the rules this feature created

Every rule added by this feature shows Auto-block in the Source column of the Blacklist tab, followed by the name of the order that led to it. Click the order name to open that order in Shopify.

Step 1: Open Block & Re-director > Blacklist.

Step 2: Click Manage filter, choose Source and select Auto-block. The list now shows only the rules this feature created.

These are ordinary IP address rules: you can edit, disable or delete them like any other rule. See A complete guide: Block and Redirect rules.

Who can use this feature?

Available on the Enterprise plan and above.

FAQs

  1. Does this cancel the high-risk order?

No. It only stops that IP address from visiting again. Use Risk-based actions to cancel or flag the order itself.

  1. A real customer was blocked. What do I do?

Open Block & Re-director > Blacklist, filter by Source > Auto-block (or search for their IP address), and delete the rule, or add the IP address to the Whitelist tab so it is never blocked again.

  1. Will it block the IP address of an order I placed myself to test?

Yes, if Shopify rates that order High risk. Delete the rule afterwards, or add your IP address to the Whitelist tab first.
