Block or redirect by ISP
Overview
Block or redirect visitors by their ISP (internet provider), the company that gives them their internet connection, within a country you choose. Use it against companies that rent out servers, which real shoppers rarely browse from, or against a provider that keeps sending you bad visitors. Rules live in Block & Re-director > Blacklist under Block ISP or Redirect ISP.
What you'll learn
How to block or redirect an internet provider?
Step 1: Open Block & Re-director > Blacklist, choose Block or Redirect, then click Block ISP or Redirect ISP.

Step 2: Set the status: Enable applies the rule as soon as you save, Disable stores it without applying it.

Step 3: For a redirect rule only, fill in Redirect to (an External URL or a Shopify Market) and Displayed name (optional). See Use a Shopify Market as your redirect destination.
Step 4: Fill in the ISP fields:
- Select country: the country whose providers you want to see.
- Select ISP: one or more providers from that country.
- Add a private note if you want, then click Save.

How it works?
The provider list depends on the country you select first, so pick the country before searching for the ISP. A visitor matches when their internet provider is one of the ISPs in the rule, and every visitor using that provider is blocked or redirected. To block all VPN and proxy visitors, whatever their provider, use Settings > Risk Mitigator instead; see Configure Proxy and VPN blocker.
For a redirect rule, matching visitors go to the destination in Redirect to instead of the blocking page.

Who can use this feature?
Available on the Enterprise plan and above. If you downgrade, ISP rules are turned off.
FAQs
- How do I find out which internet provider a visitor uses?
Open Analytics > Visitors and look at the visitor's access detail; the ISP is listed there. Analytics also shows the top 5 ISPs for your store.
- The ISP I want is not in the list. What can I do?
The list shows providers known for the selected country. Check that you picked the right country; if the provider is still missing, block its IP range instead with an IP Range rule. See Block or redirect by IP address.
- Will an ISP rule block my own customers?
If genuine customers use the same provider, yes. Whitelist known customers' IP addresses, or ask our support team about limiting ISP rules to VPN and proxy traffic (see the note in How it works?).
- Can I whitelist an ISP?
Yes. The Whitelist tab has a Whitelist ISP button with the same country and ISP fields. See Create a whitelist rule.
