Build Your Own Bundle (BYOB)

Let customers build their own bundle from product sets you define, with optional tiered savings. Launch meal kits, gift boxes, skincare sets, and mix and match offers with no limit on the number of products, variants, or sets you add.

How it works

A Build Your Own Bundle (BYOB) campaign works in three simple steps. First, you group your products into one or more sets, for example "Cleansers" and "Treatments". Second, the customer picks the items they want from each set. Third, when they add to cart, Pareto combines everything into a single bundle line. You decide how pricing works: reward customers with tiered discounts as they add more items, sell the bundle at one fixed price, or run it with no discount.
Pareto builds the bundle the moment a customer adds to cart, so you are not limited by Shopify's native bundle caps. You can add as many products, variants, and sets as you like, with no limit.
Example: a skincare brand creates a bundle with Set 1 "Cleansers" and Set 2 "Treatments". A customer picks 2 cleansers and 2 treatments. A tier of "Buy 4 or more, get 15% off" unlocks, the storefront strip confirms the saving, and the cart shows one bundle line with all 4 items inside.

Before you begin

You set BYOB campaigns up in the Pareto admin. Have your product sets in mind before you start, since each set needs at least 1 product.
The Build Your Own Bundle campaign type is available on the Basic plan and above.

Create a Build Your Own Bundle campaign

  1. In Pareto, go to Offers, then click Create campaign.
  2. Select Product Bundle (BYOB) as the campaign type.
  3. On the Rule settings tab, enter a Title (required) and an optional Description.
  4. Under Set of Products 1, enter a set title, set an optional Limit, and use Browse to add products from the Shopify product picker. You can add as many products as you want. Leave the Limit at 0 or empty to let customers pick any number of items with no limit.
  5. Click Add Another Set to add more sets. Each set works independently and requires at least 1 product.
  6. Under Add Discount Rules, choose one of the three discount models (see Discount models below).
  7. Optionally expand Schedule, Target customer, and Target country to control when and to whom the bundle appears.
  8. Click Save. The bundle goes live, or stays scheduled if you set a future start date.

Each set enforces a minimum of 1 item. If you set a Limit greater than 0, customers cannot pick more than that number of items from the set.

Configure display and add to cart

Open the Display settings tab to control how the widget looks and behaves on the storefront.

Add to cart action

Add to cart, Add to cart and open side cart, Go to checkout, Go to specific page

If you choose Go to specific page, enter a redirect URL in the field that appears. On the Grid Bundle Builder layout, turning the quantity selector off shows a single add button that switches to a check icon when the item is selected.

You can also configure the Checkout upsell tab to promote the bundle on the checkout, thank you, and order status pages.

Discount models

The three discount models are mutually exclusive. Pick one per campaign.

Model

Behavior

Sell as fixed price

The bundle has one fixed total price plus a compare at price. The number of items does not change the price.

Add tiered discounts

Configure unlimited tiers (Buy from, Buy to, discount value, discount type). Customers unlock bigger savings as they add more items. Count items across all sets (default) or per set.

No discount

The bundle price is the sum of the selected items. No compare at price and no tier strip.

For tiered discounts, the storefront shows a progress strip that prompts customers, for example "Add 1 more item to unlock 15% off". Discount types include percentage off, fixed amount off, and fixed total price.

Limitations

In this release, BYOB does not support a standalone bundle page, A/B testing between layouts, AI product suggestions, subscription apps, or a multi-page wizard. Customers cannot edit individual items of a bundle from the cart; to change items they remove the bundle and rebuild it on the product page. Selections are not saved if the customer refreshes or closes the page. If all products in a set are out of stock the items are hidden, and if every product is out of stock the widget is hidden entirely.
