Collection Priority
When a product belongs to multiple collections with active discount rules, Pareto automatically applies the rule with the highest priority.
This prevents conflicting discounts and ensures your store displays the most relevant offer to each customer.
How Collection Priority Works
- Each collection-based rule is assigned a priority number.
- Higher numbers = higher priority.
For example, priority 2 is applied before priority 1.
- When a product appears in more than one discounted collection:
- Pareto checks all active rules for that product.
- The system automatically applies the highest-priority discount (within the same offer type).
- However, if a product only qualifies for a lower-priority rule (e.g., priority 1), that discount will still apply.
- If two rules have the same priority number, Pareto will apply the most recently created rule.
Default Priority Logic in Pareto
If multiple discount rules are applicable at the same time, Pareto follows this default hierarchy:
Variant → Product → Group → Collection → All
Within each level, rules are prioritized by Target Customer first.
For example:
- A variant rule for logged-in customers with tag takes precedence over one for all visitors.
- Collection Priority is only applied when rules have the same Target Customer type.
(e.g., Between two “All visitors” rules, the collection priority number determines which one wins.)
- If a rule targets logged-in customers with tag, it will still override an all visitors rule — even if the “all visitors” rule has a higher collection priority number.
Set Collection Priority
- Go to Pareto – Quantity Breaks & Bundles in your Shopify admin.
- From the left sidebar, click Offers.
- At the top-right of the page, click Collection Priority. The number shown here indicates how many collection-based campaigns can have priorities assigned.
- In the Priority column:
- Enter a number (e.g., 1, 2, 3…) or drag collections to reorder them.
- 1 = Lowest priority
- Higher number = Higher priority
- Click Save to apply changes.
Example
Collection | Discount | Priority | Result |
---|---|---|---|
Holiday Deals | 20% off | 1 | ✅ Applied if “VIP Members” is not applicable |
VIP Members | 10% off | 2 | ✅ Applied (higher priority) |
If a product belongs to both “Holiday Deals” and “VIP Members”, the 10% VIP Members discount applies because it has the higher priority (2).
If the VIP Members rule doesn’t apply, the Holiday Deals discount (priority 1) will still activate.
⚠️ Note: Collection Priority is only available for collection-based product discounts.
It is not applicable to:
- Order discounts (which always apply to the entire order)
- Bundle or Add-on discounts (which do not have target collections option)
Best Practices
- Use priority 1 for broad or fallback campaigns (e.g., store-wide or seasonal offers).
- Assign higher numbers (2, 3, 4…) for more specific or overlapping collections.
- Avoid assigning the same priority to multiple collections — it helps keep your campaign logic clear and predictable.
- Review your priorities before major sale events to ensure rules apply as expected.
Troubleshooting
Q: My discount didn’t apply as expected.
Check if the product belongs to multiple collections. Adjust the priority number of your preferred campaign so it takes effect first.
Q: What happens if two collections share the same priority?
Pareto will apply the most recently created rule. To keep results consistent, assign unique priority values whenever possible.
