Pareto's MCP server

How to connect an AI client to Pareto Quantity Breaks

Connect Pareto to an AI client like Claude or ChatGPT to manage your discount campaigns in plain language, without leaving the chat.

Before you begin

You'll need two values from the How to connect an AI client modal on your Pareto Integrations page. Open it and keep it nearby, you'll copy from it as you go.

  • MCP Server URL: the field at the top of the modal. Click Copy URL.
  • MCP API Key: the field below it. It must show an Active badge. Click Copy Key.

Copy these live from your own modal rather than from this guide. The values are specific to your store, and the key can be regenerated.

Connect Claude (web or desktop)

Claude runs your MCP server from Anthropic's cloud, so your server must be reachable on the public internet.

  1. Open Claude settings. In Claude.ai (web) or Claude Desktop, click your profile icon → CustomizeConnectors.
  2. Add a custom connector. Scroll to the bottom of the Connectors list and click Add custom connector.
  3. Paste the MCP Server URL. Paste it into the Remote MCP server URL field. Leave Advanced settings empty, our server handles OAuth for you. Click Add.
  4. Authorize with your API key. Claude opens the Pareto authorize window. Paste the MCP API Key and click Continue.
  5. Approve the scopes. Review the permissions on the consent screen, then click Approve. The connector is now active.
  6. Use it in a chat. Start a new conversation, click the + icon → Connectors, then toggle on Pareto Quantity Breaks.

ℹ️ Note: If the authorize window shows "API key verification failed", the key may have been revoked or regenerated. Go back to the Integrations page and copy the latest key.

Connect ChatGPT (Plus, Pro, Team, or Enterprise)

ChatGPT needs Developer Mode to add custom MCP connectors. It uses OAuth, so you never paste an API key into ChatGPT itself.

  1. Enable Developer Mode. Open ChatGPT → SettingsApps & ConnectorsAdvanced settings, then toggle Developer Mode on.
  2. Add a new connector. Back in Apps & Connectors, click Add new connector.
  3. Fill in the connector details. Name: Pareto Quantity Breaks. Description: Manage discount campaigns via natural language. MCP Server URL: paste the URL from your modal. Authentication: OAuth. Check I trust this application.
  4. Create the connector. Click Create. ChatGPT opens the Pareto authorize window in a new tab.
  5. Authorize with your API key. Paste the MCP API Key, click Continue, then approve the scopes.
  6. Enable it in a chat. Open a new chat, click the connector picker (+ icon), then toggle on Pareto Quantity Breaks.

⚠️ Warning: ChatGPT only allows OAuth for custom connectors. Never paste your MCP API Key into ChatGPT settings. Only paste it in the Pareto authorize popup that opens in a browser tab.
