Stack Discounts Per Cart Line Item (Shopify Plus)
Merchants on Shopify Plus can let multiple discounts apply to the same product or variant within a single cart line, instead of only the highest discount winning.
In this article
1. How it works
Previously, only one discount could apply per cart line. With stacking enabled, offers that share the same stack tag are treated as a group and applied together to matching products or variants. This makes it possible to combine offers like quantity breaks, one-time discounts, and bought-together bundles on the same line item for more flexible promotions.
2. Prerequisites
- Your store must be on Shopify Plus.
- Your store must be on at least the Basic plan to access Advanced settings.
3. Setting it up
- Open an offer and go to Advanced settings.
- Turn on Stack with other offers.
- Select the specific products or variants you want to include.
- Assign a stack tag.
- Save. Any other offer using the same tag will combine with it automatically.

4. Stacking with offers outside Pareto
Offers using this feature can also stack with discounts created outside Pareto, whether from Shopify's native Discounts admin or from another app.
- Open the Pareto offer with stacking enabled and go to Advanced settings.
- Copy the stack tag shown there.
- Open the external discount, in Shopify Discounts admin or in another app, and paste the same tag onto it.
- Save both offers. They will now combine at checkout when conditions are met.

5. Important notes
- Offers must share the same stack tag to combine.
- Bought Together bundles do not yet support the Advanced settings stacking option. Support for this is coming soon.
- Changing the stack tag on one offer can affect its group, so double check the full group after making edits.
- Each stacked discount counts toward Shopify's discount function limit (a hard cap of 25 total). For the most reliable performance, we recommend stacking up to about 10 discounts together at a time.
