Using Discount with Shopify POS

Our app works seamlessly with both Shopify Online Store and Shopify POS.

This means that any discount logic you create (quantity breaks, bundles, tiered discounts, BOGO, etc.) can be applied in-store at POS and online without extra setup.

However, it’s important to understand the difference between discount logic and widget display:

  • Discount logic: Always applies across Online Store and POS (no extra configuration needed).
  • Sale widget (upsell/bundle UI block): Only displays on the Online Store product page. POS does not display in-page widgets.


Example Use Case


The Problem:

You want to run different offers for in-store vs. online shoppers:

  • Offer 1 → Applies at POS (e.g., Buy 5 get 20% off in store).
  • Offer 2 → Applies online (e.g., Buy 3 get 10% off on your website).


Pareto Solution:

First, you’ll need configure targeting POS customers with customer profiles & tags:


  1. In Shopify Admin → Customers, create or update a customer profile for your in-store checkout flow. Example: Add a tag as you want to work with POS, eg. POS.
  2. In Pareto, create two separate offers:

Target POS using buyers with customer label

  • Offer A (POS) → Set targeting to “Logged-in customer with tag = POS.”
  • Offer B (Online Store) → Set up rule as usual then scroll to Target customer section in our App. Make sure you set it to "All visitors"


=> Then, when your staff checks out with a tagged 'POS' customer profile, Shopify POS will apply the POS-specific discount logic automatically.

When an online visitor shops on your store, they’ll see and interact with the widget and receive the online discount.


Limitations

  • Sale widgets are not available in POS. Only the discount logic applies.
  • Customer tags must be assigned manually via Shopify admin for POS targeting to work. Therefore, your customer might not get the loyalty rewards if applied the usecase.


FAQ


Q: Can I show the Pareto sale widget inside Shopify POS?

A: No. Shopify POS does not support embedded widget displays from apps. Only discount logic applies.

Q: Do I need to create two offers for POS and Online?

A: Only if you want different discount rules. If you want the same logic across both, one offer is enough.

Q: How do I create applied to POS only rules?

A: Use a tagged POS customer (Eg: POS) in Shopify admin → logged in that account in your POS. In our app, create discount rules that applied to logged-in customer and have this customer tag.
